Bedding In A Diff

Apparently upon bedding in a new mechanical diff you can either do figure 8's for 20 minutes

or

Have the diff specialist coat the disassembled plates with friction modifyer, then just drive off.

Still recommend changing oil after bed in.

What's the best way to go ?

Do what the diff manufacturer suggests.

As above.

Some diffs, like my Tomei (which I think is a re-brand of the KAZZ) suggest 20min of figure eights putting in the clutch before you turn in for the 180 degree turn at the top and bottom of the figure "8"

That's going to be one boring drive.

kaaz reccomend figure 8's for 20 min's in first gear (clutch in before turn, clutch out after turn)

nismo actually recommend going for a drive in the hills lol...

i did the figure 8's for 30 mins just to be sure, then dumped the oil...

i had a mechanical diff put into a previous car i had, i never did any of this i just didnt do burnouts and i changed the oil after like 1000kms, and that diff worked fine.... what a waste of fuel doing figure eights lol... a good mountain drive fair enough.

It has nothing to do with skidding the car.

Figure 8's can be done in as little as 200m2 so go to a shopping centre carpark on a Sunday evening. It doesn't require much thought.

yeah ok.

But my intentions are:

Have award change the diff,

Hopefully return to their workshop around 3pm ,

do the break in somewhere,

return to them immediately to change the oil,

then go home.

Yep, I usually tell people no hard accelerating and nothing over 80km/h for the first 1000km to bed in the bearings, seals and tolerances. Then once in a while you get a VU SS ute come back after 200km missing half the teeth off the crown and stupid/honest enough to leave bald 20" tyres on the rear end
