Hey guys, ive recently purchased an A3 pod and wanted to install it on my R34 GT. this is my first "engine mod" im doing so im just trying to make sure i get it right, without any hiccups, as im time poor at the moment and need my car for the weekend.

At the end of this, i will post a DIY incase there are others out there having the same issues as me (pictures included).

1. i was looking at my current standard airbox this morning and noticed i had to do screws/bolts here and there to take it off. it seems pretty easy to install, however i noticed on my R34 there is a pipe/hole that seems to come out of the bottom of the exsisting pipe (before the AFM) connecting to the AFM from the engine, i assume that attached to the air filter box at the bottom. i may have imagined this (it was early), or it may be an easy remove and dont worry about it. however i am putting the question out if this is something i have to do something about? or what? hopefully someone will know what im talking about in regards to this???

2. My second issue is with the pod fitting onto the AFM (directly after, hopefully thats not an issue) ive read online that alot of pods come with a foam to put between the AFM an the pod, mine did not, can someone please let me know if i should get some foam (which type) and put it on somehow (how?)

I know the pod is probably one of the easiest additions you can do, and im sorry if these questions seem really stupid, but id rather ask these questions now, than get bad news later. Thanks for any input anyone gives and ill post a DIY guide once ive done it.

Hi mate,

Generally it's not too hard to install the Pod. Make sure the pod filter you have actually lines up and fits onto the AFM (all four bolts).

The foam piece you're talking about I believe acts like a gasket. Normally they are supplied (Apexi certainly give a blue sheet of it). In all honestly I don't think this is a big deal, but would probably help to reduce any dirt between the gaps being sucked into the engine by making the joins sealed.

Another thing to look out for is the metal bracket which will hold the AFM and filter up. Your nomal airbox will be bolted the the engine bay, so now once this is removed, you should have a few screw points on the engine bay to use to mount with. Mount the bracket onto one of those and have the second point secured to one of the bolt points on the AFM. This will ensure the AFM isn't isn't moving around in the engine bay.

OK 1st Removal of air box..

Done this ages ago on my old 34 so don't ask me bolt by bolt...

Generally undo all the clips the AFM off the box n all that crap take the panel filter out and I think the bolts were either inside the bottom of the box or around it somewhere anyway find them and undo them.

ALSO i dunno if needed or not but there was a VAC line going to the box...

I took this VAC pin out of the box and drilled a small hole into the back of my POD rubber put it inside so it sticks out nice and tight threw the hole... left it to attach that line to later... simply attach the adaptor plate to your AFM and squeeze the pod on with a clamp to tighten if u want that gasket get it i don't think you need it.

(you can get brackets to put in between the adapter plate to secure your pod somewhere to the chassis there's plenty of places where the pod sits you can bold it to... just find the appropriate bracket and there you have it all done :thumbsup:!

but yeah not 100% if you need that VAC line.. but you will see what i mean when u find it.

So this pipe that seems to come from the bottom (right before the AFM) to the bottom of my air filter box, is nothing to worry about? and if i take it away, the whole, is okay to be open??

I believe this is what you're talking about in regards to the vacuum line:

Connects to the air intake control valve. Just make sure you don't block the vacuum line as it will affect the function of variable valve in the intake plenum creating flat spots and loss of power.
