I was driving my R32 this morning, just cruising at around 60km p/h and suddenly I got a really weird engine noise / feel. I stopped at the lights and it felt really "lumpy" a bit of a "put put" engine sound like what the VW Beetle makes (but not as high pitched).

I gave it a bit of rev when stationary (quick tap up to about 2 - 2.5) and much the same. I then proceeded to drive off normally in the hope that it was just an intermittent thing to no avail. I drove on boost and that was fine. Then I guess suddenly it went back to normal (ie. not lumpy). After that the car was fine.

I checked out the engine after I parked (with it still on) but I couldn't find anything wrong.

Does anyone have any idea? (Note I wasn't boosting hard before it happened. Just normal driving.) It got serviced last week, just an oil change etc... I've done a few hundred km's over the weekend without incident.

Apparently the car's done 60,500 but I fear it may be wound back :D

hmmm com to think of it dont they have the coilpacks on the plugs.....either way it sound like u got a lead/coilpack/sparkplug dead.........on the other hand check ur radiator water once the engine is warmed up and running...if its bubbling in there u got bigger probs than just spark

yeah if you've had a service then your sparkies must be fine. If it's never happened before then check they are in tight and so are your coil packs and also check the plugs are connected firmly. All else fails then find a good mate like TonyGTSt and borrow some coil packs.

Only drama is, if your problem is very intermittent it may be hard to diagnose if it's not happening all the time.
