Hey guys n gals

any help on this would be very much appreciated :(

car is a 1996 s2 R33 gtst... its got a haltech E11V2, full exhaust, upg turbo, pod, cai, fmic, bov, 700cc injectors (i think), boost controller etc etc etc

it all started when it was runnin very rich, i mean u could light the oil on fire it was that rich lol... so i was like ok ill take it for a tune

tune went good started out at 143 rwkw! n went to 330 rwkw :) as well as fixing a few other probs... 2 days later car starts missing under all loads again! only thing i could see wrong was a few wires left near the turbo / exhaust were melted (O2 sensor, boost solenoid, air flow sensor) as the exhaust was runnin much hotter... i thought maybe it retarded the tune as its a haltech lol n took it back for a re-tune, n to move those wires

got the car back, all was well, 2 days later plugs are crapped again!!!!!! :) ... only thing i can think of is the injectors are rooted??? plugs in it were NGK BKR6E gapped .8mm... i was thinking going heat range 5??? burn abit of that crap off them???

Dont use heat range 5 if your making 330 rwkw, that plug will run far too hot. You want at least heat range 6 or maybe 7 depending on how you drive.

Also have you upgraded your coils? or are you using the factory ones?

What do the plugs look like i.e. black, white, oily etc

Cheers

Hey mate,

ive had very similar missfire issues to you, using the same plug and yeh... 1-2 days and they get shitty..

I now use NGK BCPR6ES.. honestly... never looked back, car is perfect up until about 10,000kms and then replace when I notice a little bit of spluttering, but its still no where near as bad as those BKR6E's....

Also, u know, normal things... check all coil packs for cracks, make sure u have the right tension for the plugs etc etc...

hope this helps.

Adam

heat range 7 no less mate, easy sorted and a gun of a car by the sounds of it :(

haha i put the NGK BCPR6E 1ns in on saturday, has been runnin really well, cept still rich! gahh... i noticed the coppers were a lil bit longer where it goes into the coil than the iridiums 2  wether that has anything 2 do with it lol

gunna get a flow test done on the injectors today, see if that is the damm problem

thanks heaps guys!

found out what was wrong with the car lol

well the injectors were all pulled out n they turned out 2 be BA ford falcon injectors :D lol wtf

the sandwhich plate had been modified to fit these stupid top mount injectors into the side of the rb25, the wiring harness wasnt soldered anywhere n the wires just fell outta the injectors when they were pulled out lol... not to mention the injectors were full of sh1t

so gunna get the wiring harness all re-done, a nissan fuel rail with sard injectors n have to replace the sandwhich plate or whateva grrr

when the last owner finished all this genius work they forgot to tighten the bottom intake bolts! so they were all loose to! lol

Hate to say it. But that has to make you feel confident about the car holding together with that power. Theres enough direct fit kits out there now not to have to adapt up something that doesnt belong.

If I were you I'd be looking over everything that you know is modified to double check everythings done up correctly/ no leaks etc. Just in case. The Joys of buying a premodified car. You may say money on the mods. But you also have to put up with anything they did that wasn't right.

What base pressure are you running? I ask because BA Ford 6 (incl' XR6T) injectors are only 295cc and for you to be making 330rwkw on 6x296cc injectors would make for an interesting duty cycle figure.

Also BA 6 cyl'r injectors are 14mm injectors so make sure that you order the correct SARDs as most of them are 11mm. I would look as running the same style as the BA 6cyl'r injectors but just larger and from someone like Bosch, from what i have been reading about the new style injectors there are some very good ones out there especially in high impedance.

Have a look here at the 610cc Siemens Deka ones;

yeh defo will aye, im actually kinda worried it is a cheap chinese 1 lol cuz theres no visible brands or nuffin

do u mean as in turbo psi???... cuz i run it on stock lol so 7 or 8... only rarely go 14, baby the damm thing lol

apparently the ford injectors in it were 650 - 700cc :D n the person actually drilled out the sandwhich plate 2 fit them in cuz they were 2 wide

He means fuel rail pressure.

If they were 650 - 700cc I'd be expecting near stock fuel rail pressure

  • 2 weeks later...

hey guys... got the car all fixed up... well to an extent lol

put sum blitz 850cc injectors in with a nissan standard fuel rail, also had all the wiring harness fixed up from the previous injectors

the ecu also had a short circuit n some corruption, which was fixed up by haltec

after all this it was tuned n all went well

however now its bout 5 days after gettin it back n i think the car has fouled the plugs that i put in 3 days ago!!! :) gahhhhh

could it possibly be wrong gapping / heatrange of plugs??? or coil packs screwing it up??? as its the only thing other than ecu i can think of :(

    • Ok gotcha, so one post to fpr  another to bov  and I have the mishimoto boost controller and a link g4+ so I’d just have the tuner set it up properly. For the last two from plenum post throttle to  ecu/ boost controller, I know that I have a hose coming from the ecu that I was confused about so I assume that’s what connect to the boost controller from the ecu? And then the last is just from plenum to boost controller then to wastegate?
    • From there, it was just a quick electrical check, prime the oil and start her up Which, is not what happened. 1. Bloody seppo Aeropro battery holder. Not only was it too tall for the battery (which I'll forgive them for, I have another battery the same nominal size that is taller than Neil's one, but the bracket is a fixed height so the battery was spaced up) But the thing that really shits me is the hardware to hold it on requires a 7/32 Hex key. WTF. No-one will ever be able to remove or install the damn thing without a hex key they don't own 2. Kill switch no longer worked once the console was installed. Neil mentioned above he had to adjust the length but it no longer cleared the console once installed. Sorted. 3. Suspiciously, the brake light holders were hanging in the boot with no globes. Sure enough the stopper on the brake pedal was missing so they are always on unless the kill switch is activated. Will pick one up tomorrow (turns out 32 and 33 don't use the same stopper) 4. All that sorted, I turned on the kill switch, turned the key to ACC. Nothing. Turned it to IGN. Nothing. Checked some fuses and found the main IGN in the boot was missing which improved things once it was replaced. Now ECU and dash lights turn on with IGN but still no fuel pump. 5. Turned it to Start....ECU on, no fuel pump, no starter. Plus the voltage dropped straight to 9v.  I suspect the starter is f**ked but am going to have to work through it all and see what is happening, really looks like more than one issue. Does anyone have the R33 fuse box key with the circuit it sources from (eg BAT, ACC, IGN, SRT etc) and supplies? I can find a translated list showing Amps and circuit without supply circuit, and I can find supply circuit without Amps and target circuit.
    • 3rd time lucky, the AAC is now all plumbed up after getting some final fittings All set up under the plenum of maximum access
    • OK, so the weight has been bugging because it was really low. I did it again today and got a more believable answer at 1246 without driver And with a 93kg driver I'm pretty sure the car was still slightly on the quickjack last time meaning the full weight was not on the scales
