alright guys,

ive got an r32 gtst and got a few questions about the horn

with the standard steering wheel, is it meant to have a clock spring or backing plate on the actual steering wheel that touches the metal tabs? because mine doesnt(one that i was supplied with my car as i had a sports wheel on it)

also with the steering wheel off touching the outter tabs to the main column(earthing it) does not sound the horn or light up a test light.

the horn fuse in the engine bay is fine and has power to it, the relay in the engine bay has power to one of the three prongs, not sure how to test the relay?

i need a few tips on hwo to get it working as i have to take my car for inspection on wednesday.

i think i may be missing the backing plate of my steering wheel to goto the horn button? but im not sure, but thats only half the problem as the horn doesnt work when u test it with the steering wheel off.

thanks

Try testing it from the battery strait to the horn to see if your actual horn works. If you can hear the relay clicking over when you hit the middle of your steering wheel then theirs no problem with it. If your horn does work from the battery and can still hear the relay clicking it must be the wiring of the fuse or from the relay to the horn itself.

if it has only 3 terminals then 1 is power. 1 is earth through horn button. and last is output to horn. if you can match the wire colour from horn to relay then bridge that wire to power terminal and see if it works. then the earth terminal bridged to the chassis somewhere while relay is in place and it should click and send power to horn. if both of them tests work then you have a problem further up the earth wire in the cab.
