What Is This Part?

Hi, im building a RB30/26DETT with the RB26 intake manifold.

I've kept the IAA/AAC valve unit from my RB25 and was thinking of using that instead of buying the whole rb26 unit.

Now i need help identifying a certain part, its placed on the hose running from the AAC unit to the intake also if its needed for it to work! I havent still got the RB25, sold it a while ago without thinking i neede anything else off of it :S

that ones for cold start idle up. i think its called the IACV.

it basically just bypasses the throttle body to idle up when the motors cold. its also usually connected to something with coolant flow to warm the air up. yet on alot of SRs ive fiddles with ive removed the coolant related parts to eliminate hoses and havent had a problem yet.

tho if the RB26 uses one of these make sure you put one on lol, the RB25 one should be identical they look the same on about 10 different motors ive seen.

Guess ill be skipping this one if it only has to do with preheating the AAC since i want to keep the engine as 'bare' as possible

It provides additional intake air for cold start. It contains a "gate" connected to a bi-metal strip that is electrically heated (the plug on the LH end in pic). As it warms up, the "gate" closes, cutting off the additional intake air.

It would have been so much easier if you said that i could easily do without it Specially since im going to run ethanol and 1600cc's, sounds like i should be ready to get me one if its gives me a hazzle starting it cold

sorry if i wasnt clear, as stated above it allows air to bypass the throttle body to idle up the motor without additional throttle. it is needed for the car to run smoothely on cold start. yet the part which seems to have confused you is that some motors have a coolant line connected to it also, to warm it up, which IMO is not necessary. BUT the valve itself is.

Im keeping the AAC but skipping the pre-heating part, also heard from several mates that they've taken away that part on their Nissan, BMW etc etc
