Hi all my name is wayne i'm 43 i live in melbourne dandenong area with three sons from a previous marriage and one on the way with my new wife and i know i'm a glutten for punishment but my wife lisa has never had children so it's only fair she gets to experience motherhood and she is light years ahead of my ex in many ways so l'm more than happy to do it all again for her sleepless nights etc.

so as the title suggests i've decided to defect from the subaru to the nissan family... been an up and down affair with the 3 subies i've owned they are good cars don't get me wrong although i've come to the realisation that a GTR namely the R32 out of the box is just a more complete package as i'm not really wanting to go more than a better fmic, exhaust, and a bit more boost maybe a little large huffers i do have a motec m48 not sure at this stage if that is worth keeping it for the GTR?? as a lot of guys seem to use power fc's? and since the R32 is a lot cheaper these days makes it a good time to find what i'm looking for and at a decent price.

so any do's and don'ts on what i should be looking out for in the R32 GTR i've read that the pre 92 model had issues with the oil pump which was rectified in post 92 models also i like the fact that R32's can be switched from awd to rear wheel drive by replacing the fuse with a switch just a couple of things i've read so far so any more help on buying a GTR R32

Also what i would like to know is what type of internals from factory does the RB26 in the R32 GTR come with ie: forged rods? forged slugs? ect.. and most importantly are the five speed gearbox much stronger than a WRX one as the wrx gearbox really lets it down once you up the power somewhat any help would be much appreciated

cheers wayne

    • Throwing my spoon to the soup here a bit.  When I installed a 044 back in 2012, along with the direct power mod, the car became very difficult to start. To a point I burned one starter motor as I was late for work and tried to get the thing going. With some tuning and careful use of gas pedal when cranking it became bearable. Trying to make this short as possible, but the 044 died after 2-3 years, after which I went with an AEM 320lph pump, which also died after about 4 years to my dismay. After that I went with a Nismo pump, and while trying diagnose an emissions problem, I noticed for the first time that my fuel pressure was 5bar/72psi on idle, and that removing the vacuum line did nothing. After monitoring the situation, and removing the direct power feed and going back to FPCM in attempts to remedy it, I noticed there was fuel in the pressure regulator vac line. Kept the FPCM, installed AEM external regu and the car became sooo much better in every way, including starting. And I had driven it like it was for 11 years.. Anyway, I agree these are likely two different problems, and the FP problem you just haven't noticed before. I do not know much about haltecs, but what first came to mind was the CAS, which probably is not there any more. So how is the wiring from haltec to gauge cluster? How is the battery voltage and alternator?
    • Your car was auto before? You have different diff ratio (auto vs manual i think? or n/a and turbo?)
    • +1 for getting a screen off alibaba, CarPlay/Android Auto is vastly better than whatever navigation cars had 10 years ago. I got an Android screen for my 2015 BMW, huge difference. Fully compatible with factory stuff including iDrive controls.
