Hi all,

Just wondering how many kilometers some skylines have done out there, and what problems they have run into due to age and fatigue. Would be interesting to know how many 100,000 ks we can expect before any major dramas.

I would have liked to set this up as a poll but not sure how to.

Mine has done 75,000kms with no engine troubles so far.

i think this will be impossible to answer due to them being wound back. I wouldnt base the condition of the engine based on kms. It depends on how much its been thrashed and treated. A well maintated rb will last forever

I am pretty sure not all skylines are wound back. I know when I bought mine i had it inspected and the mechanic said the wear and tear on the car matches the kms.

Even if u do look after the engine it is inevitable that someday something mechanical will fail. I am just curious if this has happened to anyone yet due to old age and not from being thrashed. Or will we have to wait another 5-10 years before we start seeing these problems.

Is there anyone who is into several 100,000 kms yet?

I got my R33 at 123,000k's...have gone up to 151,500k's since...still sounds beautiful I must say. But I do watch what oil goes in and put those long life additives and such, just to make sure.

I guess the only thing is that the engine oil probably doesn't usually last 5000kms like it should...may get black a bit earlier, like 4000kms

My 25T has just clicked up 118K. My R32 gtst before that got to 125k before I traded it, still going at 150k according to the current owner. My sisters Rb20e Cefero is now up to 220k and still going strong, starts first time every time and runs smooth as when she got it at 70K.

Bought my '95 GTS-T with 54,000km on the clock, i've now got 83,000km on the clock and all i've replaced is the clutch and rear shocks. Apart from that it hasn't missed a single beat, never stalled or anything... superb !

1992 R32 GTR, genuine 71000km's on it, only problem has been a snapped valve guide... it happened quite some time ago (the piece that came off went into a cylinder, scored the top of a piston, and you could tell it was quite old from the carbon buildup on it) but the car was still going happily. Got it fixed when I decided to rebuild the engine.

I think I've been living in Japan too long - I thought my old GTS was well passed it's best when I sold it with 91,000KM on the clock...that's Japanese thinking for you. There was nothing wrong with the car either. Never missed a beat. Trouble is over here, once you start getting close to the 100K mark car lose all re-sale value...:D

    • The powder coating came in at $250 EACH. The TRX rims got a coat of clearcoat on the outside only.
    • Bit wet, but YUMMY
    • Keeping in mind that I am currently getting flat 10 L/100km on my RB25DET, which means >>500km/tank. I would test this car for vacuum leaks, check codes and AFM signal with NissDataScan as D says, check plugs, do a compression check while they are out.
    • It is hard to be specific half way across the world...but it *seems* like it might have a minor issue. Is the idle stable and does it rev smoothly? I would not expect any pops out of what I am assuming is a standard ECU, standard tune, standard exhaust. You can use Nissan Data Scan to find out exactly what is happening when it runs, the cable/software is reasonably affordable if you are not planning on changing the ECU (which hopefully you are not with an NA skyline) BTW your mileage may not be that far off, these are heavy old tech cars, and being NA might mean you use a heavy foot to keep up with traffic....
    • Hey guys! Y'all are the masters so figured I'd check in on a few items here. - My engine sounds ever-so-slightly more raspy than the other NA RB25s I've listened to. It's barely noticeable but definitely a slightly different sound. - When I back off the throttle at high RPM, I will sometimes get a pop out of the exhaust, assuming this can be diagnosed as misfire. Some history on the car: - Had an exhaust leak in auction sheet but was claimed to be fixed by seller (bought from USA importer).  - Car's coil packs and sparks were replaced when it was sold to me, but unsure on what the gap is and whether the coil packs are correct.  - A prior mechanic had misdiagnosed a pilot or throwout bearing sound as LSPI/detonation. Had played with timing a bit, pops/raspy sound of engine just got worse. Got timing reset. - Had failed emissions a few times. First time went in as is, failed. Second time, replaced cat, still failed, running rich as hell. Third time replaced o2 sensor, passed. Car still smells gassy though. - Timing belt and valve cover gasket also replaced.  - Gas mileage is... low. about 350-400K per tank.  Any idea if I'm having any serious issues here or does this all sound like normal old NA RB stuff and I'm fine to drive it with the pops/slightly raspy engine? If it'll help, I can get drop a video of the sound of the engine.
