Tyre Mantinence.

Hey guys,

I'm getting my Kumho's fitted tomorrow, but they've been sitting in my garage for a month or two and have collected a couple of spiders. I removed most of the webbing, but there's some stuck in there. Should I just hose them out and let them dry, or will this damage them somehow? Do they need to even be cleaned, or will the tyre joint clean them for me?

Tyres seem pretty durable, but I figured I'd ask here before I went a head and potential ruined them.

Washing your tyres wont damage them in any way, especially if they are just street tyres... You can even use regular every day washing chemicals (as long as they arent caustic).

Just use tap water and Morning Fresh and they'll be fine.

and what kumho's are they?

if they are ecsta supra's then i would not put them on as i have them on front and when driving in the wet, taking a roundabout at 20k/hr i get understeer at times

Was referring to cleaning the interior of them more than anything. Was unsure if they had some sort of special coating or something, figured I'd ask just in case.

The inner liner of normal street tyres can be affected by chemicals if they are caustic or corrosive , such as degreaser or turpentine etc.

Just use a cleaner that doesn't contain anything too acidic and it shouldn't harm the inner liner at all.

P.S. - Don't use a brush or anything that could tear the liner (its only very thin), just use a soft sponge or rag.

or just get them fitted to the rims. the webs won't make much difference.

in fact I always leave the redbacks in there to see if the tyre fitters are paying attention
