if you want it to be loud and look drift spec and jdm and <insert any other ricer term> then go for the cannon. if you want a muffler that gives a good note but isn't annoying as hell to drive with, then get a 2.5" oval muffler.

then would a 3" twin muffler be as bad? would it drone alot?

If you've already got a 2" exhaust, then yes, to get it to fit would be fairly straight forward for any exhaust shop.

I recommend you ask someone with a similar exhaust about noise. I reckon it would be loud though.

do canons still drone with the silencer on?

Nope not usually. It's typically the best way to have a legal car, and when you hit the track you take it out.

The other time it might be useful is if the neighbours are complete twats, and you want to stir them up a bit, you take it out. Give them a blip of RB goodness off the limiter while they are yelling saying they are going to kill each other etc. All you can hear is that beautiful music of 6 cylinders humming in progression of chaotic melody. Certainly drowns them out. I recommend it.

Iv got a 2 1/4 inch exhaust with one resonator and a 2.5" twin square tip muffler, sounds nice and is right on the legal db limit.

your intake piping also comes into play when you modify your exhaust i think, i removed all the stock piping on my car and it made it louder and gave it a nice sucking sound

thanks. so you would recommend a canon with a silencer ?

Cannon are a pain. They drone like hell on any NA skyline, you need like 2 resinators to get rid of the drone, too much pointless spending. Get somthing that works well.

Definatly worth the $2000 kakimoto R cat-back and custom cat, front pipe and HPC extractors

you have an NA skyline. anything with a big outlet is going to make the car noisier and drone more. that one like you posted from ebay won't be that bad though as it is only the tips that are 3". where it passes through the muffler is still only 2.5" so it won't be that bad, but if the muffler has poor quality packing then it may still sound bad.

a full custom made 2.5" cat back exhaust with a good rear muffler and centre resonator should only set you back about $500 and will give a good note while not being too loud.

as for the cannon with the silencer, yes they cut down the drone, but they do also look stupid with the silencer in them. just get a good quality 2.5" oval muffler and then find a nice tip for it (and not one of those ones from supercheap, etc that are held on by a screw/clamp).

I had a long coby resonator and another shorter/fatter resonator on my car at one stage with a 4" cannon and that wasn't even close to being drony, it was rather quiet until 5k rpm and even then it still wasn't a deep drony sound

Ive got a 2.5 inch straight to a resonator then straight into a 5 inch cannon, get a loud deep roar all the way till about 7k revs then you can here the it pinging the rest of the way.

Came like this from japan, only thing ive had to change was the Resonator, the new one gave it a deeper sound, and ive also had the cannon mounted with rubber type holders to give it some free moment if it shakes or gets bumped, ive had the weld crack before and it gave an awful metal rattle on start up with a big knock.
