Tyre Puncture Repair

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a careful, reliable and meticulous tyre place to have puncture repair WITHOUT scratching/damaging my painted wheels in the process of dismounting and remounting the tyre?

Who fitted the tyres to those rims originally?

I suspected that it happened a while ago, I checked the tyre pressure this morning and when I got home it lost a few psi. Then I inspected closely and there the nail was in the middle of the fat tread, DOH!

Fitted tyres in Rowville, but I just fear that they will damage the painted lip.

Hey Matt,

The tyre won't have to come off to have a puncture repaired, only the wheel needs to be taken off and it's only a few minutes work to have it fixed. You can do it yourself with a puncture repair kit or take it to any decent tyre place and you won't have to worry about your wheels being damaged as it's only a minor repair job.

no it has to come off because they have to glue from the inside of the tyre so it wont leak again

I have had it done many times and not once have they taken it off, it has never leaked either. They have their way of doing it trust me, and it works.

the only way to do it with tyre on is by using those poo stick things and they are only for temp repairs. Every one I've ever had done, the tyre has had to come off the wheel and as said above they burr the rubber and stick either a patch on or put a bung in. Get it done properly at a decent place and your wheels will be taken care of, if they're not then they buy you a new rim, simple.

Huh, I was never told it was temporary, I knew there was another way of donig it by taking the tyre off but I was never offered that option. Few place I went to they never mentioned anything they would just fix it with the tyre on and charge me and that's it. It's good that I know now for the future.

i say take it back to traction tyres. Clean them up real nice, make a specific point of saying that the rims are pristine and if there are any marks on it AFTER the repair, they can only come from one place.

The guys are great down there, they'll take care of them.

The other thing is that a puncture repair changes the speed rating of the tyre (i think) best to check with them at TT. Don't want to go out to the track and have a blow out... no doubt you'll be hitting some silly speeds in your beast

i think the rubber is about $500 a corner... but yeah, i do see your point. Especially the speeds it's capable of.

Correctly repaired there is nothing wrong with a puncture repaired tyre.

You can even fix semi's in the same fashion.

Only issue is semi's tend to be softer than the compound used to fix the hole, so once it wears down a bit you get a tiny bump each turn of the tyre i believe
