Hi Guys,

I am wondering how strict the police and road authority is in Sydney and if I can register the car in Sydney?

Essentially are the police going to make my life a living hell?

I've had my R33 GTST for about 3 years here in Brisbane and no fines from police regarding mods. I am likely going to move to Sydney (Head Office in North Ryde) in the next few months and want to take my car with me.

It looks fairly standard but has a few mods including:

1. FMIC (had to cut a touch of the reco bar to fit)

2. APEXI turbo (still has stock heat shield but can tell from some braided lines and apexi cast into elbow)

3. Nistune on Z32 ECU

Other mods I have done in a way that isn't illegal and doesn't attract attention:

Exhaust is fairly quiet (2 x 2.5inch with dual mufflers)

Suspension is just over legal height (SydneyKid spec)

18" 350z wheels

I have no stickers or bright coloured paint.

So any thoughts?

The only thing to be mindful of is that you WILL be chosen for a "random" ID check.

This is done at one of a couple of RTA checking stations and usually is booked after you attempt to register the car, meaning you have to wait a few weeks.

The last car i brought in for QLD was a V35 so they look ok, and i had no probs with NISMO suspension and a quiet exhaust.

The other issue i had was that they wanted all the paperwork, including full compliance documentation. (Not sure if the person i was dealing with was just having a bad day, but i had it all so it was ok)

If your car has been through a few owners this may be hard to get so speak to the QLD rego guys and see if you can get copies just in case.

Maybe give the RTA a call and ask what they'll need and ask to speak to a manager to confirm and get his/her details.

I've been farked around too many times with different info so do this anytime i need something done by the RTA.

i recently bought a car to NSW from VIC. YOu will need to get a BLUE SLIP and an ENGINEERS REPORT to accompany the blue slip to give to the RTA. You need a few other things like Deed of Sale, plus others i cant quite remember off the top of my head. Then you need to hand in your old QLD plates, with all these forms to the RTA. I didnt get chosen for a Random inpsection, and i thank God i didnt, but its a chance game i have heard, sometime they do, sometimes they dont, I got lucky i guess.

I can Highly recommend Greg Boyle from Autosport Engineering (ph: 9521 1388), he did my Blue Slip and Engineers Report. Superb service and did almost all the hard work for me. He knows exactly what to do and explained it all in laymans terms for a rookie like me.

Best of luck mate! Cheers,

Andrew

mate if the car is registered in qld all you need to do is when you come to nsw to get a blue slip and then go rta and change over registration to nsw

I agree with karl, whats everyone else going on about? its straight forward.

Yes only blueslip...unless it has mods that will also require an engineers report.

it has mods, but take it to a leanient place for a blue slip and it wont be any hassel.... unless you are going to engineer it? up to you

my car is HEAVILY modified so needed an Engineers report for all the mods. Un-modified should be straight forward i assume.

If it was going from NSW to QLD, its so freaking super easy, my brother done it twice with modified cars, goes to his mate up there in QLD who, gives the car a look over, gives him the blue-slip thing (or whatever the QLD equivalent is) and off he goes to get it registered. SUPER EASY. He laughed so hard when i told him all the things i had to do to get mine registered...... :)

I bought mine from QLD and it's pretty heavily modified only 4 months ago, got it blue slipped and thankfully didn't have to go for the RTA inspection! All good!!

If you do have to go for the inspection i was told if it was clean, and looked standard you should be ok.

I didn't use Greg from Autosport for that one but i have used him in the past, he did my soarer when it came out from Japan and i would highly reccomend him as well.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok sweet thanks for the replies. I've also considered leaving it registered in QLD address - I wonder if that is practical.....

I'll be down end of March. Still looking for a place to rent.

It looks fairly standard - nothing too crazy. But FMIC with a bit taken of of reco bar might mean trouble over the pits.
