Scott fitted the Brembo brake package for me today, pretty much a bolt on affair with the calipers...used an angle grinder to hack off the dust shield in the rear.

350z Brembo calipers (F&R)

RDA slotted rotors

HPX pads

Stoptech G35 braided lines

the front braided lines had to be fiddled around with in order to get them fitted correctly and not hit/rub/scrub against the wheel. The rear lines fitted fine.

Bled the brakes and refilled with Nulan DOT4 fluid.

The Good: looks nice...brakes seems much grabbier when engaged.

The bad: brake travel shot to hell. In order to engage the brakes I had to depressed them fully or pump them. Scott thinks either a bigger master cylinder is needed, or a rebleed is needed.

Made an interesting drive down to Portsea tonight. Was pretty scared I was gonna stack...

Gets shorter. After a few pumps the brakes feel good.

As Duncan said...more than likely ableeding issue....I had issue's bleeding mine when I put em on as well. Took it for a test run with and on the second big hit they were fine.

I had no issues bleeding mine, these are a weird setup as the callipers run twin bleeders. Is there a particular method I should be using on the Brembos? We flushed the whole system and I bled each nipple until there was no bubbles, starting with the inside ones. Then I did them all again to make sure. Perhaps there was an air lock somewhere?

Hopefully any excess air has worked its way into the callipers, I will re-bleed the system for you tomorrow if you like.

your also supposed to either disconnect the battery or unplug the abs module

if you got any air in the abs you may also need to cycle it too (something that is done from the nissan diagnostic thingo)

craigs 'big hit' may have moved some of the bubbles from the ABS module to the caliper.

ironpaw, keep an eye on the front brake lines. one of mine moved and rubbed on the front driveshaft and started wearing out the braiding. so maybe double the cable ties

Scott rebled the brakes. Got a a couple more bubbles out. Pedal travel is pretty much similar to stock now...which is better but I'd think with all the stuff I installed the brake travel would be much less...

hmmm maybe I need to take a big hit with it...LOL

maybe a new master cylinder?

It's the total area that the master cylinder has to move that might make a longer pedal. Single piston calipers tend to have very large pistons. Best way to tell if the master cylinder is not OK is to measure the standard and new pistons and see how much larger the new ones are. Often the difference is minimal because it is the calipers that are larger not the pistons inside them.

And basically, bleeding after replacing everything can be a real PITA. Sometimes it is OK straight away, sometimes it will need a few shots.

A properly bled braking system should have a short pedal travel to get the pads to the disc, and then be consistent pressure all the way to the bottom. You should get the same feel on every push.

If it gets better after a pump or 2 you probably still have air in the system. If you get to the bottom and it sinks slowly you have a leak somewhere. If it is consistently long you have bled it OK and may need a larger master cylinder

maybe a new master cylinder?

nah......my peddle is perfect....doesn't need a new master cylinder.....if it's still soggy you still have air in the lines.....did you do rears as well? If not have you ever bleed the rear?

Scott rebled all four brakes.

Its better now but if I pump it the peddle feel gets better.

Found out on 350z forums that the master cylinder between brembo and non brembo 350z's are the same: http://www.350z-tech...ap-brakesmg.jpg

The difference is the brake booster?

is it even possible to replace the brake booster?

Danny said he never replaced his master cylinder but he didn't mention whether his peddle travel improved either....

I am pretty sure Chris(Akebono) and Ben(Brembo) have not replaced there master cylinder or brake booster either.
