Ok, Heres my problem.

Today (Boxing Day) I started my car and took off fairly hard bringing first gear up to about 6000, I then proceeded to change to 2nd hoping for that nice wheel spin can be achieved from this. Alas I was not greeted with wheel spin but a great loss of power like bad turbo lag instead.

Now to my problem, ever since this every time I get the revs to 3000 in any gear from 2nd up, the revs suddenly jump to 4500 and then back to 3000.

There is no jolt when this happens, just an over revving laggy engine.

Also there is now a slight ticking noise coming from under the left hand side of the bonnet when the car is idling.

I am thinking that it could possibly be a blown turbo gasket? But it has all happened so suddenly after me being stupid and not allowing my car to warm up correctly.

Could this be the cause, What are everyones thoughts?

BTW my car is stock except a 3in cat back.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am fairly new to the world of turbo cars, and my mechanical knowledge of cars in general isn't exactly in depth, so go easy on a newby

Ticking sound from the around the turbo certainly sounds like a blown turbo gasket, I had similar problem a while back.

If it is, its not an expensive fix.

Poke your head in the pasenger side of the engine, you may be able to see the problem.

Dont go flogging it, cause if its the gasket you dont want more pieces of the gasket breaking off and flowing through the various parts of your engine.

Thanks mate. What exactly am i looking for with a blown gasket. As I said I am a complete newby to the world of turbos, but I am doing my best to learn about them.

I know where the turbo is located but what exactly would the blown gasket look like?

Any help is greatly appreciated, as none of the mechanics in my area that I would trust to work on my car are open due to the holidays.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it could be a slipping clutch to me?

Trying to decipher your problem as a couple of the other guys have stated it does sound like it could be your cluth that is the problem.

But just to clarify something for you you say it feels like and over-revving LAGGY engine

Over-revving does indicate slipping clutch ( you can check this by loading the engine in a higher gear at relatively lower speeds) caution though be careful not to do to much damage

Lag is the lack of REV's or "pick up" when you accelerate theoritically opposite ends of the spectrum.

but anyway good luck.

thanks for all the replies everybody (and for the definition of laggy).

Sorry for the late reply computer problems, it never ends!

As it turns out the clutch was the problem, took it to autosport and they had it diagnosed about 2 seconds after getting into the car.

Anyway, it is now replaced with a heavy duty item and is going better than when I first bought it. It is even creating up to 10 psi boost (only could get 7 before new clutch).

So in summary thanks for the help, and these forums have now become my official home away from home. Such a wealth of valuable information!

cheers
