Heyya doing people!!!!!!

Right my heart set on building a very fast R32 powered by a RB22!!!!

Right first off lets start by saying this car will have to drive from Ireland to Germany to the RING !!!!!!! once or twice!!!and be used at weekends for fun n games! but truly is gone be a track car!!!!!

My plan is to ! Rebuild my perfectly working RB20 cruently at 300BHP at fly! to something with a bit more power!!! would like 350+ at the wheels, im unsure of what turbo will get me there but its not all about the figures!!!!!! Im looking for something which will be track focused, good power , and plently of RPM rang so i can used the power on the track!!!! any ideas??????

Engine rebuild from the bottom up will consist of:

Regrind crank.

ACL big end bearings + (was going to go with rods too but tuner told me there good for 500?)

Apr bolts

forged Wössner pistons

Rebore for 2.2L

Cumbustion chamber enlarged for 2.2 bore!

metal head gasket

oil gallery orifice + leak off to sump

N1 water and Oil pumps

Considering using GTR valves(input please)

abj pullies,Soild lifter, GTR cams, supertech double valve springs

Plazmaman Inlet manifold

Fueling wise im unsure of i have 444cc injectors + should uprate to external pumps or twin intank pumps?

Guys any input will be helpfull! please help the IRISH guy!!!!

Many thanks Chris

Not quite sure where you are going with this build but these threads might help. They all deal with increasing the capacity of a RB20. Read the stickies in this forum for heaps of information on suitable turbos. You will probably have to think about a gearbox upgrade as well. Good luck with it.

Well r32 NA are hard to come by over here tho ill look into it!!!! and i want to keep RB20 yes i know ! rb25 flow better and would be easyer to start from there! But this is about keeping it a RB20!!! plus then you have to pull it apart n start agian -1000euro

And yes Rb25 box here for new build!!!! the rest of the car is done just need enine now!

Dude, if you want 350bhp+ using a rb20.... there's going to be lag. You'll have to build it to rev.

Go the TD06L2.

If you want to keep the rb20, use a rb26 crank and rods with custom pistons. Keep the bore as close to stock as you can.... bored out rb20's seem to split blocks regularly.

Port the head, thow some rb26 cams and solid lifters.

Then throw as much boost and fuel at it as you dare...

    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
    • Wow the colour matched hard top completely transforms the car. Are there any nice front lip options for the car or is that off the table?
    • Generally yes but for some reason I've been ruthless this time around!  I might even need to do another tip run after the way I've finally been able to hit the delete button on shit I've stepped over, stepped around and tripped over for the past 10 years!
    • I just quote the Rolling Stones. Paint it black.
