For the third time - can anyone confirm for Jay and I whether you need a CAMS license? (as in get a document so I can prove to my supplier for sure).

Sumfatchin - you could pretty much get it 1/3 - 1/4 the price from the right place compared to hardware store

Benm - who you looking at doing group buy in sydney? (Just to see if it works here too)

I'm just looking for someone who can buy the 'stuff' at a nice price and then distribute it for the n00bs that dont know what its all about.

I still find it quite weird how this topic hasn't appeared long ago if its deffinetly a seat of the pants power increase. What happens in 10,000km when someone has to do a rebuild because it doesn't work out like everyone states.

4 Doorz.... for the 3rd time you do NOT need a cams licence to buy Toluene. There are no lead content issues with Toluene.

It is sold as a solvent and as such does not attract fuel tax thats's why it is relativly cheap. If you use it as a fuel then you are legally required to contact the appropriate gov dept and pay them the fuel tax due on the amount you use as fuel.

The only question is .... is an octane booster counted as fuel.

Those in Sydney, go to BP servo and they order it in from the head depot for you.

I have never had any prblems doing this, though im still using the 20L drum i bought in February. (only use it at track days)

You dont need a Cams licence, just order some and dont state that you will be using it as a fuel additive, you need it to wash some parts. (As stated by someone earlier) I have purchased probably around 5-6 drums and never had any trouble whatsoever.

No if you want to go to Shell depot and buy their Racing fuel (contains lead) then you will need a Cams licence.

Hi rev, you ever done a comparison of the 25% toluene 75% Ultimate to to Elf Turbomax or LMS? I tried some Elf LMS the other day, 280 rwkw to 335 rwkw, with another 10 degrees of igntion and 0.2 bar boost. I thought the knock sensor on the Commander was broken, it refused to ping.

Strangely I didn't have to change the mixtures with LMS, ran the same numbers as Optimax. With Turbomax I have to add a fair bit more fuel. Plus that Turbomax is viscious on the hands and nose, LMS seems more kind to the environment (my body).

Best thing was I stuck the EGT in the lambda sensor hole and it showed lower temps with LMS, around 780 degrees versus 840 degrees with Optimax. But there was no discernable lag increase or loss of throttle response either, it's damn clever stuff. Wanna be for $5 a litre, still that's cheaper than $7 for Turbomax.

Can't wait to try some in the RB31DET, 400 rwkw here we come...........

well just to throw a spanner in the works...I used 5L of methyl benzine in a tank full and it felt that the car was a little slower and exhaust noisier with more back firing.Havnt tried it since i got new head ,but i still got 10 litres left and will try it again.I also think the car runs hotter on this .My opinion though.

Ok so...

60L x $0.95 of Optimax = $57.00

or

(20L Drum)

20L x $2.25 + 40L x $0.95 = $83.00

(200L Drum)

20L x $1.56 + 40L x $0.95 = $70.15

So it isn't -all- that expensive although you wouldn't want to run it tank after tank. Maybe a tank before and after of a trackday or 1/4 run or something.

Yeah, it's not that bad when you look at it like that..

Unfortuatly the only way to make full use out of the fuel would be to have a fuel/ignition map for it.

No use just pouring it in and going to the track.

I suppose you could pour it in and turn the boost up a little then crack the base timing up, but you may not get the full effect...

Better than nothing though.
