Not sure where to post this but I came across a company here in in OZ that makes engine blocks and heads out of aircraft grade billet aluminium. Would be very strong and light I guess.

Wondering if anyone knows of a complete engine build using one of these? They are available for a number of engines types. SR20, 2JZ, 4G63 and the mighty RB26!! Even available to suit Chevy bell housings. Now thats not you average Commy.

No idea of price or much detail but could you imagine the benifits? Weight distribution on a GTR for one, and track durability. Any info or details of projects in the pipeline would be an interesting read.

Very interesting! The weight savings would be fairly substaintial i would believe. 20-30kg possibly? What's a full RB with all accessories weigh, 250kg?

If an RB26 block comes in below five figures I would be f**king surprised. Absolutely super cool though! Money no object anyone...?

Ive sold RRR blocks for five figures...so those guys with that sort of coin would be interested.

personally unless your after over 1500hp a normal 05U block will do the job. Most of the big hp GTR's in this country are using 05U blocks without an issue. Blocks split and crack due to poor engine harmonics than anything else, an engine prepped and assembled properly with a sensible bore size will not have block issues. The only real advantage of the N1 item is the thicker deck which does in some applications prevent fatigue cracks around the head stud holes when running mega boost.

I would think these blocks would mainly be an advantage for circuit work to get weight from the front. Hence i would like to know the differences in weight of these compared to a normal RB block.

Thoes blocks look like they should be in a show room. I see by their lack of prices these fall into the "if you need to ask" catagory of parts. It would be really neat to see a company like that , that makes engines from raw material make a rb38 or something. I've always thought about how cool it would be if a macinist in his spare time could make a 4L 2 stroke rotax and put it in a car.

Build something factory and get way more respect from the V8 crowd, i got respect from a bloke running a road runner Hemi as his car stock was only 1 second per 1/4 mile quicker than my WRX Which only had 225HP!!

bullet cylinder heads pretty much lead the country for 26 heads, many shops claim to do cnc in house but all they do is send it to them.... :D

Its the old story of flow data is not everything. part of why i asked about the GTR head allowing 1400hp. I dont like to mention this, but the 2JZ head can flow 2000hp without any porting, whats the maximum power anyone has seen from a GTR with untouched cylinder ports?

No guessing it was yours that was better Paul, obviously. But , by how much is the real question. I'm guessing i'll get a cryptic answer, but have to ask !

Do you still use the OEM steel crank girdle or do you get a billet aluminium one too? I would not think there would be much of a weight saving otherwise, and for $11k I would rather grout an 05U block, chuck in some steel sleeves and spend the extra money elsewhere.

edit: Paul, are your heads done by hand or you have a CNC program?

do these billet block run coolant systems?

most billet v8 blocks ive seen anr just that...blocks of aluminium with 8 holes in them and a couple of oil galleries.

as for the weight saving, buy a couple of carbon bits like guards and a bonnet and that will be the weight difference, as i hae a feeling that to get it strong enough to hold 1500hp its gonna need to be fairly chunky.

edit: just looked at the website, so they do have cooling passages

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new  
    • Nissan needs to forget about building SUVs in every size possible and bring back the damn Silvia/200sx duo to compete with the 86/brz. Maybe with the Honda type r motor pointing the right way
