Power Steering Problem

Hey guys ! I got a power steering problem on my R33 S1.

I can start the car up and drive around as per normal but when turn the car off and start it up again the Hicas light comes on and the steering becomes heavy.

Thinking that my power steering pump was on its last legs I changed it and the problem is still there.

Anyone had this problem and might know what it is ?

Have you done a search & read the threads on HICAS - and doing a HICAS diagnostic? That should probably be your first step.

i got similar problem as well,,,the Hicas light stays on and the steering is heavy,,,thinking to put another pump in,,,,

There is a fault in the HICAS system, which, in R33s, is separate from the P/S system. But try checking the P/S fluid level first.

And how old is the battery?

Power steering level is fine and the battery is a 610cca sealed unit thats only a couple of years old.

tkong it aint the pump as I just went through that !

The annoying thing is that if the car sits for half an hour and you start it up and drive it works fine !

If you stop and start it up again the Hicas light comes on and the steering is heavy.

check the Hicas ECU replace that, you will fix your problem 100%.

Thanks jss I did what you said and changed the Hicas ECU and I fixed the problem !
