Hi there boys n girls, well I wanted to see if anyone knew anything about the following .. My coupe has blemishes on the stock tints on all windows including mirrors. There sorta oil marks that I can't get rid of, anyways I'm wanting to tint all windows and mirrors and smoke the tail lights and head lights and I'm certain I can source the window tints and smoked light films (excluding the side mirrors) anyways I have a few questions for those who have done this before or have any idea about it,

1- does anyone know who would retint my car for a good price?

2- would it be cheaper to sort out my own tints and just pay for the labour if putting them on?

3- can anyone give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost to scrape off the current stock tints and put on new ones let's say new ones at 20%

I would SERIOUSLY rethink your approach here. the car may look like crap but I dare say its a tad more legal than it would be if yo did this.

that said yellow pages is your friend.

I think he means the smoking/tinting of the head and tail lights... when you think about it, it's a pretty silly idea. Also, there is no need to tint your mirrors. No one is looking into your mirrors except you, and it's going to be hard enough to see them through the 20% tinting on your windows.

35% is the legal tint i have the dark windows on the back and just tinted the front with 35% and thats plenty dark enough

also i have the tinted tail lights and head lights i got the film from ebay in the us

If you want the best quality Window Film , You cannot go past the film Tint A Car use. They use Window film from the USA which is much better than the Chinese film the Tint professor uses unless the professor runs out of film and gets some through Tint A Car.

that is eaxctly what I mean.

20% at night is nigh on impossible to see through. even 35% on my van makes it hard at times. think about it for a second.

soooooo........... i have 5% on my car.........................

*hides*

5%!!!! your insane!!............umm i've heard Zinus Tint is really good, a couple of people have done it through him on this forum and they

do vouch for his quality of work. His prices are also the cheapest you will find and come with a 10 year guarantee. As far as tint quality goes, i dont know what he uses.

Im sure someone else can also pitch in about him. btw his number is 0415231222.

Ah sorry guys I didn't make my self clear , the side mirrors I don't want to tint them but they have this oily bubble look in them I'm not sure if there is some sort of screening there that can be taken off and replaced. As for the tints I might have to check out in person how the %'s look like in real life , as for the head and tail lights I just want to "smoke" them cuz I just simply like the look of it.

I did mine.

Looked Cool.

Couldn't see at night at all.

The tint increased the temp inside the headlight and reduced the life of the plastic lens whiched caused stress fractures.

It took about 10/15 mins each one.

I have taken them off now.

I'll take a pic and post it of the lights now if you want.

Yea some thing like that but lighter, a guy I saw with a white v coupe had something similar to wat Im looking for I'll try googling it later and find some pics that are closest to the type/darkness/style I'm looking for

Someone posted up on another subforum on here about a film that makes the light enclosure darker during the day, but doesn't obscure the colour too much at night. It can either tint, or change the colour.

It might be worth checking out.

Bingo

I'll probably end up doing it on the Z, since I've gone for a "black contrast" theme on my car.

Some pics would help :P

  • 2 weeks later...

Those "oil marks" are actually acid rain which usually happend if the car was at the docks waiting for transport for a period of time . Which is what my car had before i got it detailed. The detailer scrubbed all my windows and its all gone now but he managed to crack my bumper in the process.. but thats another story.

What you need to to is get those blotches out and it will take A LOT of elbow grease....

    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy Haven't really thought of that yet, but you are right. If the hose was damaged it should be absolutely pissing by now. I'll put some heat sleeve around it for good measure since I'm already removing the line anyway.  Maybe I'll put on some of the stock hardlines if I ever fully remove the turbos again. Maybe when T51R modding the compressor housings? Might be a fun mod on GT28s for that "fake single turbo" effect.
    • Update 1: I did some work on the car already before finalizing this post and my "issues" list. I dropped the Tomei exhaust in favor of the HKS Hi Power Silent. Sounds nice and I can actually hear myself think now. Also gives me a realistic chance to legally drive without silencer inserts. A bit of cheating was necessary to still be able to mount the Top Secret style diffuser. Some malusage of washers and a bit of "convincing" toward the brackets and exhaust hanger seemed to do the trick. The shaky steering wheel has been resolved as various suspension components were worn, like sway bar bushings and link bars. Most notably the two steering tie rod ends. Had some trouble finding bushings because my sway bars are not OEM thickness, 23.x up front and 27 rear. But non adjustable, so no aftermarket I suppose. Maybe they are nismo units? Turbo oil drain hoses were definitely still the originals and are new now. Wasn't the cause of the turbo oil leak sadly. Currently removing the rear turbo because of it, I suspect the braided oil feed line is the culprit. This issue needs to be dealt with so I can work towards actually getting the turbo setup legal and inspected. Two new issues to add to the list as well. Rear Main seal is probably leaking. Time will show how bad it is, I don't really want to drop the gearbox right now just for the stupid seal. Could fix a few other things in one go once I do that. Front right driveshaft grease is going past the cv boot, so at some point I'll fix that too.
    • Ok so no 4cyl clutch... Yeah it is a factory manual. So if iam correct i need clutch and flywheel too? I can use something that suits something like R32 GTST?   EDIT: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224291042776 Is this ok?   EDIT2: i maybe forget to mention this(dk how important it is) but the trans will be behind RB25DET NEO(iam doing swap) It will be there for a little while. Iam planing to do bigbox or BMW tranny..
    • You're probably right about that one. Thanks for your suggestions, I hope I don't need a new 3rd brake light. Although wiring issues might arguably be worse. Right now I'm in the midst of a turbo removal because of my oil leak, other problems are going to have to wait for now.
    • Hell, I know that much. So far I just put it off as "part of the deal".
