A bunch of my collegues from the Virginia office in the U.S have G35 coupes and and one has the sedan.

I have been in the sedan as it was driven hard to the redline and it was pretty sweet. Its not like driving a turbo car but its still meaty.

Im guessing the JDM version is better again.

If we could get them here I would be considering one as well (coupe).

I have to admit I felt the same as you - I didn't like them at first, especially when you've only seen them in pics. But after a while they kinda grow on you. I've spent a lot of time at my local Nissan dealer, and had the opportunity to check one out (no test drive mind). I think they're great, excellent build quality, lovely interior with some nice touches. If I had the money, I'd probably go for one myself.

Get one with a nice kit, lowered and a nice set of rims and you'll be sorted! :D

thanks for showing the rear pic of the stealth stovetops. I have been corrected. I like it and can't wait if a turbo is actually in the pipeline like a magazine (speed) out thinks. Gotta get the article scanned and posted.

No probs Geoff, that'd be good if you can scan that article.

Theres alot of misinformation floating about with the turbo/no turbo, "oh my god Nissans gone NA!" and all the other rumours and things.

Keep in mind that magazines print sensational stuff to sell more copies... and that happens here in Japan aswell. But I think the difference between Japanese and English Language Car magazines is that Japanese motoring journalists will without a doubt get more accurate info that a foreign (western) journalist. I don't care how many times an Aussie/Brit/American car mag journalist has been to Japan.

So I tend to dismiss anything that comes out about Japanese Car industry gossip in English language Car mags, unless they print direct quotes from whatever Japanese person it was that they were talking to.

Case in point: I was handled very carefully (read: treated with a little contemp) by the guys at C-West until I told them I was married to a Japanese girl, then they took me in and gave me the grand tour of the factory, completely changing their tune and even telling me stuff that I wasn't even interested in knowing!!! So, I guess theres an amount of "protectionism" and, dare I say, "indirect rascism" that goes on in the Japanese Car industry as regards information flow, who should know what etc...

I know the feeling, and was also handled gently until I established my car import business bonafides back in 97. After that, the door opened dramatically. No-one wanted to deal with a private individual. Anyway i just reread the article and it is a scream. Gotta get it out soon.

Honestly a bit worried about NISSAN motor future now that its owned by RENUALT and run by GHOSSEN (who im not saying doesnt know how to run a company) but i just dont think he has the same aspirations for it as the Japs did have. as far the costly development and refinement of an RB based GTR of the future.

i hope everyone who also supports this theory is also wrong but it doesnt look that way

But the V35 your thinking of getting does look pretty nice not to mention the MAXIMA (jap version) also does look pretty sweet

It doesn't look like an evolution of the skyline shape, particularly the way the roof falls to the boot lid and the rounded front end treatment. You can look at the DR30-R34 and see the evolution of the shape but i don't see it here.

Thats because the V35 isn't an evolution of the R3x line... (said that before somewhere)

Thats why it's "V"35... not "R"...

i like the look of it, it does look tough in a meaty kinda way, but the arse end makes me want to vomit. Its stove top and a half back there. If they were to implement these lights into it, http://members.iinet.net.au/~awcabren/GT-R_004.jpg , then it would be looking rather sex :)

A skyline to me isn't a skyline unless its got the stove tops, its their signature part of the car. I think what nissan will do is reserve teh stove tops for the performance skyline, the new gtr :D that thing will have the looks and the power i reckon. Even if its not a evolution of the r3x shape, its still a gtr.

Im a Die Hard R32 GTR fan and thats basically all I prefer from the Nissan range, hell even the R34 GTR looks a little too 'Futuristic' for me, the 35 coupe looks weird to me, I'm sure I will get used to Nissans new approach of their car designs, internally and externally but right now im pretty closed minded.

Looks awesome doesn't it! I went to an official top secret tuning day in October, held at Tsukuba and I was really hoping to catch a glimpse of some TS tuned V35 coupes...alas, there was none. But their Z and R34 GTR demo cars more than made up for it....:)

The V35 is a damn good car. ;) Got to move with the times as they say, and the V35 is it. Don't like it? That's OK - each to their own. Go buy a celica...:(

I'm iffy still with Nissans direction...i just guess it's where the Jap car industry is headed. Turbo is almost like a cursed word these days.

it looks a bit like an old man's coupe. If I saw a young person driving it, i'd automatically think it's his or her dad's car.

I'd like to say i'll have another opinion about it once I see one on the road, but i feel it will still look like a car my dad would drive. Sounds like a nice drive though. Modifying it would be an incredible experience as well...might even get it to look less "daddy-ish"

    • Thanks Duncan! Yeah it's street use for me only. Maybe occasional track day. Any difference in noise when running with the two pumps? I would expect the lift pump to be more quiet than the main pump so hopefully not? And yes, unfortunately quite a big price difference to the simple hanger setup. Though I'm usually willing to trade money for better reliability and future-proofing. Buy once, cry once and all that. I'd be very happy to never have to deal with fuel pump / wiring issues again  
    • The old manifold was quite under the GTR strut brace.  The new manifold is quite [unknown] the GTR strut brace. The GTR strut brace was needed to clear the bonnet vents. The Old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, but not the bonnet vents. The old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, and the new bonnet without vents. But I am hoping the GTR strut brace clears the new manifold :p
    • On the bright side, at least you knew that it happened and remedied before anything happened. A friend of mine just took his Fiat 124 to a shop for an oil change and they didn't tighten the oil filter housing properly. 4.5 quarts spewed out and even after refilling + tightening the cap the engine has a tick now.
    • So, more pain. The FAST manifold is a little larger than the stocker. This is problematic because there really wasn't much clearance to begin with, so going from 'barely enough' well into 'no' is sad based on the external dimensions of the thing, even though where it bolts to the head is the same. Result is the fuel rails sit a good 25mm higher, and this is a bit of an issue with the wiring that runs behind the motor, and the fuel lines, and everything else. When pushing the manifold on, it required a huge amount of force to crush wiring looms to fit it, sensors like the MAP sensor are about 1mm from the firewall, and the FPR just has to bend ABS lines to be forced into place. After some brainstorming and some sad drinking, the loom for some reason ran from the grommet behind the ABS sensor, then to the driver side head, then back to the passenger side head. So all of this was pulled back and stripped, a few wires cut and rejoined, so that the 'branch' was now on the passenger side's head as below: Before you basically couldn't see anything behind the driver head. This is much improved! The MAP sensor is now pointing up (instead of at the firewall) Brackets have been made up for the rail. The rails are for a LS1, the manifold is designed around a LS2 as it's base. Which of course has slightly different bracketry and water pump clearance, hence the mods people need to do. Should be hopefully mounted tonight. I spent money on a new FPR that is slightly more compact than my Turbosmart FPR1200. The gauge has also been moved to the rail. There's also apparently an ORB to AN Union instead of the adapter, because the ~25mm of the current adapter is going to make the difference. Provided this all goes together and arrives today, it'll be the totally not stressful attempt to start it.
