Does anyone know where the outside part of the inlet VVt cam gear should be when setting the timing at 0 deg?

The back of the cam gear doesnt have any reference marks, see pic

You can tell by the impression the bolt has left on your gear, from ur photo looks like the centre

it depends on a few things like head and block decking, if you want them 100% set it via cam lift.

If you want it close just make sure the mark lines up with the timing case backing plate (same as doing cam belt).
