Hi everyone, My question is about AFM's and whether it is required on my car or not. Sorry if this question is massively noobish

I have a R32 GTR running Haltech E11v2 ECU. It currently does not have an AFM fitted. I was told by the seller that Haltech does not support/require AFM's.

The following are reasons why I think I may need an AMF:

1.The idle is mostly around 1100 RPM on norm temp, sometimes fluctuates up and down the revs range between 1000 - 1300rpm. To me it sounds a bit unhealthy - kind of like a ported rotor having a heart attack - its bumpy but a irregular kind of bumpy! The seller said the idle is caused by aftermarket cams & cam gears.

2.On cold starts, the car will choke it self and die if I try to start it without throttle, I have to hold above 1500rpms for about 15-20 secs and then it will stay on without shutting down.

3. At the moment I would say the car is running super rich & using around 19L/100km 98 pump fuel (could just be the mapping?). This is driving normally (shifting around 3500 - 4000rpm) and running on low boost (7 psi). The car outputted 300kws at the wheels (not sure if thats 2 or 4) on 16psi, obviously I know that I will go though plenty petrol with that much power and I accept that. But on low boost thats a bit high ain't it?

Anyways, all these symptoms are described in the GTR service manual as possibly related to the AFM...

With all this said, my question is:

1. Can you run Haltech ECU with AFM? or SHOULD I run AFM's - is it necessary?

2. If yes, should I get 2 AFM's or is one AFM sufficient? read on the service manual that the car functions fine with just one!

Your expert opinions will be much appreciated!

The Haltech E11v2 uses a Map Sensor, so no need for an AFM (My R33GTST is running a 3 Bar Map Sensor) - I still have an AFM in place to keep the engine bay looking stock-ish. By the sounds of things you need your cold start tune to be looked at, and having the rest of the tune looked over wouldn't go amiss.

I have a bit of rev hunting issues with my car, my tuner says its down to my Nismo 740cc injectors - too big for my application, and too hard to control down low in the rev range. As for fuel usage, sounds about right, i am using about 15l/100km with ~260rwkw @ 15psi.

Best option is to take it to a tuner, put it on the dyno with a wideband sensor and have the tune touched up, as i think with running a MAP tune they are more vulnerable to environment change then the AFM tune - I think i remember reading that somewhere.

if its setup properly your 740s should idle fine and unless your thrashing it all the time you can do better than 15L/100km. air intake temp correction takes care of environment changes and should be setup properly.

19L/100km is not "about right", thats terrible economy for street use. get it properly tuned

thanks everyone. tune it is then! not very happy with how the boost come on anyways... N1 turbs and boosting @ 5000rpm... super late and uber annoying!

should i ask for anything in particular?
