Hi guys, i bought my 33 a few months back now and its lovely to drive, still puts a smile on my face and stuff, however i cant get over how much fuel it goes through. its a little scary actually, can go through about 1/4 tank from a couple hours "spirited" drive.

Now from a bit of research i understand its running rich because of the turbo-back exhaust and pod filter, and that getting some sort of aftermarket ECU and tune will solve the problem, the thing is ive rung around a bit and been getting an average price of $1700 for an ECU + tune. (Nistune/PowerFC)

From my understanding it would be alot cheaper to get the stock ECU tuned, though it isnt possible with the R33 ECU's yet? Ive heard of people in america and the UK unlocking the R33 ECU and being able to use it and tune it properly. im not sure if this is a load of crap or not but i would rather wait a bit for this stuff to come to oz than fork out a months pay for a new ECU.

Share your thoughts if you want, thanks. :D

Hey bud power fc's are a piggy back device and u need a dyno and some one that knows how to tune them right. nistune just means u need no piggyback device and that they can retune the ecu on a dyno and tune it accordinly. Ask Toshi if in doubt

wrong. a power fc is a full replacement ECU. however you do need a dyno and a tuner.

mate, you can't expect a turbo skyline to use fuel like a getz, especially if your driving is spirited. if you are really that concerned, get it on a dyno and inspect the AFRs to see whether or not it is running rich.

otherwise, lighten your right foot :)

safc is the cheapest option but is pretty half arsed for a 25. nistune is the cheapest stand alone option but you need to use a r32 ecu and loose vct or swap a few wires and use a z32 ecu. power fc's are getting more and more expensive so resale will allways be good if you look at it that way. it all depends what your long term plans are?

of course theres always the option of tuning yourself with any of these options if you do your research and feel up to it. can usually buy a wideband and cables/software for less than the cost of most workshop tunes.

Hi and thanks for replying guys, i couldnt get my scanner to work so heres a pretty accurate and sad painting i did of the dyno sheet, this was dyno'd on a 40 degree day at about 4 o'clock, if that matters.

Ok sorry i must have missed some of the threads on here, i didnt know the 33 ECU's could be remapped over here yet. so what would be the deal with getting mine done? do i have to send my ECU away, or can the car be put on a dyno?

I live in northern Perth btw.

Thanks.
