i didn't know where else to post this as its not really general maintenance, but as the title says, i got a problem with my air con! it's an R34 GTT

what was originally happening was the complete opposite, i had super cold air on 18 degrees, then anywhere from 18.5 - 32, would be super hot, like instant jump from actual 18 degrees to actual 32 degrees even on '18.5'

and i had my dash cluster out the other day replacing a backlight, and noticed that the little plug and hose that connects to the spot behind the facia that detects the inside-car temperature had always been unplugged since i bought it, so i plugged it back in thinking YES i found something wrong and fixed it, anyway, gave it a test, and now it's doing the complete opposite, it's complete coldness all teh way through the temperature range from 18 to 31.5, and at 32 its super hot.

whats the go here?

would there be another sensor somewhere not plugged in causing this like the in-car temp one was? or something else?

thanks for any help,

Brad.

hahaha, sorry i just found that funny

and i had my dash cluster out the other day replacing a backlight

at least you didnt short circuit your cluster like i did.

regarding your actual problem im unaware of any other sensors, i think the one you plugged in was the only one, it may be your actual climate control unit playing up. if you have access to a mates unit, swap them out to see if it is a faulty unit or not.

otherwise i cant think of much else.

cheers

probably your cabin temp sensor unplugged, that was my problem and now all is well.

follow these instructions to figure out what sensors are failing

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ai...p;hl=diagnostic

remember the sun sensor will register as failed at night.

r34's do not have hot and cold buttons, instead slowly turn the climate control dial from left to right to enter the different diagnostic modes. the mode you want is about an 8th to a quarter turn i think, and it'll flash the appropriate numbers.

if it flashes 22, then your inside cabin temp sensor is not working. it is often left unplugged after work is done in the drivers side foot well. the sensor is behind a plastic grate on the left side of the steering wheel. to get at it do a search in diy, but from memory there's about 6 bolts to find to get the large bit of plastic off from under the steering wheel, then lower the steering wheel as far as it'll go and take the plastic off from around the speedo etc, then its a white plug just behind the grate.

good luck mate

ey mate,

that did it.

i've been driving around with cluster perspex cover off (and that plastic surround covering it) because i'm replacing the cover soon and didn't want to bother with the hassle of taking off everything.

thanks

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365.
