Im keen too! I will post pics when they arrive fo shizzle.

I quickly modified the drawings to better represent what actually got made lol.

4inch Female V Band.PDF

4inch Male V Band.PDF

Hopefully that will help. Just gotta be aware that not all the 4" clamps are the same, so these rings might not fit a different clamp, though they would go close.

Mufflers came in on friday. They are different to the 3" mufflers in regards to the internals. The 3" had three perforated tubes welded together in a triangle form while these 4" ones as you can see have one big 4" perforated tube in the guts. I guess this one will flow better.

Only took a week from order to delivery. Quick!

I also spent the weekend finishing off the exhaust ports in the head and I lapped all the valves in. All came up pretty good. Though the valves and seats were all cut last year so its no suprise they seated nice and easily with minimal work. Only spent about a minute on each valve with fine compound.

The exhaust ports and bowl area took me about a full day to finish off.

Should get my block back today for o ringing then back for hone and then ready to assemble. :)

Cheers mang! Im trying!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, no reply to my pointless email friday morning punk! Whats the deal????

Sorry brother, I was spinning out on Friday from the previous two days in WA...

Those mufflers look much better and a much better option than butchering the other ones. Are they standard size valves? Are they OEM Nissan?

Understandable mate.

You are right about the mufflers. Im happy I aborted the dodgy option and did it properly.

Yeh the valves are factory. Stock standard RB25det valves.

Mufflers look good.. were they made in aus? if so by who??

Nice little clean up on the head too-

Twin charge- I'm loving it.

Justin, the mufflers are American, Borla is the name. Come on mate I thought you would have known that! :P They are very nice and all stainless, so well priced too.

Yeh, nothing too radical since im no pro. That was my first attempt at actually cleaning up the ports, matching, and some minor blending. Its amazing how bad it is inside there.

gonna be loud with that low level of deadening material

who is brett? should we call him? :P

is that pen holder made out of old muffler perf?

Yeh I reckon it will, so im running two in an attempt to reduce the noise. Though I have my doubts that it will work, however, performance first!

It looks like it! I got my nice string of paper weights, a CP piston, PPG dog ring, bottle of oil , 1mm oversize inlet valve inside the perf tube, further across are some valve guides and spark plugs you cant see.

lol. go for gold, so long as your not in Perth, I dont think it would matter!

  • 2 weeks later...

lol. tell me about it. Im still waiting on getting my engine back from machining. Was supposed to be last friday. Now it should be middle of this week. There will be photos when I get it all back and start assembling. :)

How was your trip?

Sorry I thought they were custom done locally, re-using the borla outer shells-

So borla made them in 4" for you... cool- loud though.

Your assembally photo diary should be pretty damn good.. I havn't seen a good, step by step bottom end build log on SAU yet.

They werent custom or anything. Just off the shelf mufflers from summit. Yeh, im worried they will be quite loud being straight through :(

I'll do my best to outline what I do when I check it all and put it all together. Though I'm no engine builder so no doubt it wont be as detailed or accurate as one from someone in the game.

    • Pete knows these cars well, he does my car too, if he was concerned about the traction arm length for your use he would have said so. Do you have adjustable bushes in that arm, maybe he got enough adjustment there (or maybe the bump steer was not material for your use of the car)
    • Hmm. Yes. I should have been clearer. 1000s for Haltech, for extra headroom. 725s for Nistune. You might even be OK with 640s, but if the possible power ends up much more than 300 rwkW you will run out of headroom on the 640s. That would probably be OK and a signal to not push it to that sort of power with Nistune anyway. At that level you probably do want to be thinking about engine protection functions. Oh, and all of that presumes 98 only, not E85. Well....the 1000s would allow you to run E85 at ~300rwkW territory, again, maybe sort of running out of headroom. Hard to tell with E85 - depends on the tuner as to how rich they like to set it up.
    • Yes.  The only scenario I can imagine when the answer isn't yes, is if you drive like there is highway patrol behind you at all times.  If your car currently runs, enjoy it and keep saving. Better costs more, keep saving until you can budget the better ECU. It's worth it.  Nope. Plenty of us making >300kw on unopened motors. Mine is unopened and makes about 350kw if I turn everything up, its fine (lots of caveats here, how the car will be used/abused, how long you expect the engine to last between rebuilds, how has the engine been maintained prior to coming into your ownership, etc etc).
    • Sorry just wanting to clarify, at this power goal, which should I be going? Also, More info regarding suspension, the rear upper camber arms were used to get the camber back to i believe around -0.5 ~ -1 degree (@ Road and Race in Rydalmere), I forgot the exact figure, but ALOT less camber than what it came originally which was like -2.5degrees. Are the traction arms still recommended? The bilsteins from SydneyKid, they've got 400lb/in fronts & 275/in in the rear, revalved to his specs. Intercooler, I'm just having a look at some on Rakuten.jp and some other japanese sites. Might get something from back there, GReddy, Blitz or HPI, all crossflow. Looking at roughly $450-$500 AUD + shipping... Theres not many choices except that chinese branded Justjap unless you go for blitz return flow. Yeah, only downside with Haltech is the price ahhaha, so expensive, and with all the sensors if I go that route... $$$$$ yeesh. Are headstuds/gaskets needed for <300akw?
