Ive been slowly working on the manifold during the week. Its quite time consuming to make all the joints line up nicely.

Im half way through the second runner and the third runner is all tacked and good :)

Im waiting on some more short radius 90 degree bends to come in. But with all this stupid flooding, transport mobs aren't working, so I dont know if I will get them before the weekend. Which sucks as I was hoping to put in a big weekend and get it finished!

I also have a set of camshafts coming from Kelford. 280 deg 9.35mm lift which hopefully will arrive before the weekend assuming the flooding doesnt cause issues there too :(

Natural disasters can blow me!

Great Work Michael,

just a small tip with Pipe work

,get small section of ANGLE & weld Flat on tip so you can Clamp pipe in V,

helps Line pipe ,

so you can use both hands if needed,

not sure of your welding Skills but if you have TIG & want save a bit of grinding USE A PRUGE tape all gaps & ends ,

POKE SMALL HOLES in ENDS to allow gas to follow ,run at 10litres per mins, will get nice even weld inside if your weldings good ,

Best of luck with your BUILD TOP WORK.

Cheers Chuckie.

Thanks.

Funny you should mention that as thats what I was about to do today at work, weld two small strips of angle to the ends of a set of vice grips so I could clamp it properly. I was also thinking about machinging some bungs and putting nipples in the ends and purging the pipes but I couldnt be arsed. Ive just been sand blasting all the pieces inside and out then cleaning with acetone, hence why they all look dull grey have no mill scale on them anywhere. I am tig welding all of it, its alot neater.

I am actually a fabricator by trade :)

Loving the twin charged setup r33 racer.

Looking forward to seeing what figures it will put down ..it should be an animal..if you were nearby i would donate some bends just to see this done quicker.thumbsup.gif

Yeh im loving it too. Its all abit new to me and its been interesting working it all out. I appreciate the offer...maybe you should move to the flooding state so that could happen next time :)

OKBANANA, mate it is my road car so it will defs be doing that. Im looking forward to it. Hows your build going?

Awesome to see it's going on the road.

My project is getting there, installing suspension this weekend and the engine will be going in for the final time in a couple of weeks, then it's just the plumbing and wiring side of things..then it's done!

Cheers. :)

Brilliant work mate, seriously impressive. I am trying to imagine the sound of a twin charged RB :)

Hi Michael,

Mate noneed to blast fittings just make sure there clean acetone them is sweet, marksing tape all joints

Do you gap fittings ??,

if you do this & Purge you will get a nice bead on inside,

as i wasPipfitter, coded welder doing only Stainless & other Exotic metals,

One thing i would say to do ,DON`T Tack in gap BRIDGE TACK in 4 spots so you can get a NICE weld all the way around,

you just grind tack off i know its SMALL PIPE but its the BEAD ON INSIDE which you want nice & even ,

HOPE its of some help,

Keep up Great work,

Cheer`s Chuckie

I tried just cleaning them initially, but found the mill scale was causing issues. So ive just been blasting everything first which made it all alot nicer when welding.

No gaps in the fittings when im aligning them. All butted up hard to eachother and just welding inside the two beveled edges. But I understand where you are coming from there.

Thanks for the tips as I dont usually do that much pipe work. :)

I have been flat out working on the race car since last weekend. But inbetween I've managed to get a few more done.

Heres where I am at so far. Just one more runner to go :D

Just need a few more 45's and 90's and then it will be done!

Brilliant!

Now just throw a 70hp shot of gass on it for the trifecter! At least it'll keep the intake charge temps down...

Are you going to vent the bonnet over the manifold?

Top work

J.

Why thanks mate! Its getting there slowly. This manifold is probably the most time consuming part of the build. Well if nitrous was allowed on the street, or easily hidden then I may have considered it. But I do have the methanol injection system I will be hooking up to spray into the supercharger inlet and before the throttle body to help keep the charge temps down.

I wasnt planning on doing any kind of vent mainly because I dont really want to cut up the bonnet.

I still have alot to do really. I just want this to all be finished and working so I can enjoy my car damnit!

Been busy with the race car all week. We took it out for testing last Sunday and the gearbox broke. Reverse gear and dog ring busted. Put a crack in the housing. So been working on that.

In some of my free time at work Ive machined up the V band ring for the dump pipe. Took me about 2.5 hrs of lathe time to get it done, what a PITA.

Im hoping to get that last runner on the manifold done this weekend so I can start welding it all up!

Hopefully Ill have more to show after the weekend.

About time for some kind of update.

So the manifold got welded and ceramic coated and is ready to roll.

I machined up some adaptors to suit the wastegate inlet and outlet ports the other day and I just finshed welding the inlet adaptor to the exhaust housing to take the big 60mm wastegate.

I pre heated it to about 300-350c before I welded it and then left it in the oven at the same temperature for 1-2 hours before turning the oven off to let it cool down overnight, hopefully slow enough that the welds wont crack. It was looking good before I put it back in for post weld cool down.

Next stage is to do this 4" dump pipe and then merge the wastegate outlet into it.
