R35 Gtr At Sa Porsche Club Sprints Rd1

Being previous Porsche owners it was a great opportunity to use the membership for once and take the R35 GTR out to the Porsche Owners Club of SA Sprint Series Round 1 and test our new updates to the car. It was a punishing 36 degree day here today, so the heat was on, but the new E85 tune, wing and suspension helped us win the day overall in our GTR with the our new PB (1:13.58) being the fastest of any car by around 4 seconds per lap, and there was some fair competition, numerous GT3/911/GT2/Cup style Sports Cars etc. :)

This is the grid for 'Group 1' which is the 'fast class', with the cars lined up in qualifying order. We put the GTR on pole, and then posted fastest time of the day, so we are happy. Here is the GTR jumping off the line and into the lead :cool:

There is still plenty of development left to get another second or so out of this car, but the trap speeds are now impressive being up 10km/h at the 'kink' for a validated 221km/h speed trap figure. The only thing holding us back was a set of tyres that already had a session under their belt.....we wont make this mistake again. Great test for the car, easy win for GTR where it counts :happy:

We put the GTR on pole, and then posted fastest time of the day, so we are happy.

Awesome :) The Aeromotions wing looks great on the car and the "downforce when you need it, low drag when you don't" effect of the wing will definitely be having a positive effect on trap speeds.

What was your previous personal best lap time before this event ?

Posting such high trap speeds on a 36 degree C day is extremely impressive.

Thanks....and yes we were running E85 today :cool:

Engine temperatures were around 5 -7c cooler than on conventional gasoline, its like having a big radiator. In fact even at the 13 pace we never logged over 98C in 36 deg ambient, which was pretty cool :happy:

The amount of downforce it generated did bend the factory aluminium bootlid though - so we have to work on a 'fix' for that :happy:

Yep the Aeromotions wing generates a lot of downforce :cool:

"... sent it to the wing guys so they could do a couple mods as you can see down the middle of the interior side of the trunk they reinforced it for high downforce loads that the wing will generate."

Are you looking to keep the factory alumnium bootlid or are you going to fit a carbon bootlid long term ?

sounds like a great result Martin, well done. A bit odd the wing bent the stocker boot lid, hmm. I wonder why aeromotions havent figured this would happen- given the apparent testing?

can you give us some feedback on the wing, did you get any data and do you have any conclusions on that?

Hey Martin, Roger, (next to you on the grid), mustve been off his game if you were 4 seconds quicker... Hes usually in the low 16s. Was he really going that slow today? :happy:

Nasty conditions out there today, like an oven

I believe his best was 16.9 in the GT3, vs 13.5 for the GTR, so 3.4 seconds. Mainly it looked to be in the 17s from the lap scoring :P

wouldnt a wing be more affective if it was attached to a more solid bit of the car. like having some stands underneath the boot lid so the force is pushing down on the floor and not on the boot lid? i dunno im just guessing here?

otherwise that is very immpressive results that im sure will make a few porsche owners red in the face.

Thats a fair effort Martin,

I cannot help but think that the whole combo is now a good thing and that your trans enhancements are making a substancial contribution to the result!

221 @ the kink is the fastest speed I have ever heard of for a streeter with doors . . . or am I behind the times on this point!

Are you planning to venture accross the borders to WA & NSW with "Triple R" this year?
