Is it really such a bad thing,,,it frees up a weekend for you lower budget racers. Eastern Creeks totally booked so we don't need them. Cochran will either throw a heap of money at another street closure (look out Fremantle) or take that round off shore. If we can get all the permanent tracks to say no ,,,he might take all his pit lane overtaking/boring racing off shore.

Neil.

Hope they don't rely to heavily on the V8 money too much, that is if they make much profit after paying for the V8 show appearance fee. Stupid V8's. Get some diversity and put some other brands in like Merc and Toyota.

Personally, I find the whole weekends events boring:

Saturday:

V8 supercars................................ho hum

formula fords................................ho hum :D

mini's...........................................ho hum

historics...something with diversity...yay :(

Sunday:

repeat of Saturday

Neil...its only OK if the track can afford to stay open...

Very true Duncan,,,but if a track owner can't make money,,,then they shouldn't own it. When was the last time a track closed because of bankrupcy?.

ARDC have been making great money for years. Our next state supersprint round is over a month away and at last count 99 of a 110 spots are sold.

The bit that shits me about the V8's is they suck every last dollar out of everybody. They make it almost impossible for state and most national runners to get any sponsorship money.

aint that the truth....I am willing to bet that the super taxis take over 95% of motorsport sponsorship $$ in Aus to a single category with 32 drivers.

I reckon their time is over and its downhill for them these days.

How is it that a place like Wakefield Park can afford to do track upgrades but well known places like Barbagallo, Queensland Raceway and Oran Park are reluctant to spend a cent?

Wakefield got an upgrade???? where?

the best upgrade they could do there is learn how to make a decent coffee!

If it is possible, I wish I could undo the edit I did lastnight. I was afraid that others would not see it the same way, fears put to rest.

RANT ON!! :P

It is unbelievable that 1 category can hold so much sway in the Australian Motorsport community. Unfortunately there is too many out there who still think that they ear watching a real ford v holden battle. son of rajab give me strength if you dare suggest otherwise.

Do you get many spectators to normal motorsport events down south? We get a good turn out to the national series and the All historics, all the others are pretty woefull. I remember a normal state CAMS meeting as a kid at lakeside was standing room only most the times I went with Dad. We had to get there early for a good spot near bus stop. low spectator numbers can't be helping the track coffers.

How are tracks funding maintenance and upgrades? we are definetly paying more and more to enter events. I guess Gaming grants are applied for pretty hard as well?

Dam I hate bloopercars.... End Rant.

V8supercars is a business before its a sport thesedays, hence cochrane is just a slightly different take on a money hungry CEO.

used to love the v8's, but theres no loyalty what so ever, reinterating the point its a business...

its a shame DJR isnt as good as they were in 99/00 at bathurst (yes im aware they didnt win but their car speed was awesome)

The proposed plan for barbagallo, not the government $5 mil up-grade, but the raceway's own plan for a $50mill upgrade (including an track extension/diversion/ new pits, new race buildings, AND better traffic flow) will bring the V8s back here, along with a big jump in motorsport in general.!

I've seen the plans and they look great, the track is a great track as it is, but this new one will quick as, not to mention enjoyable, for the drivers.

Still a few years off unfortunately, we'll have to settle for some safety fencing and track widening - $5mill worth of government "funding" (sweet FA).

i cant believe that race tracks have to pay for the v8's to come there.. thats what i got from the above posts... is that right??

they should be just like everyone else and have to hire the track for the weekend, supply their own shit, just like everyone else has to.

i stopped watching them years ago... they suck hard.

when are some of aus's tracks going to do something about their landscaping?? seriously... especially wakefield... would it be so hard and so expensive to set up a few sprinklers so theres a bit of nice green grass and plant a bunch of trees so there is more shade etc... it always seems dry and dead and dusty.

might be a business venture for me... specialist in race track beautification.

Yes they wanted half a million or more (Depending on which source you believe) to hold a race here in WA. The contract then goes up by a lazy $100,000 per year or so for the next five years. That money could otherwise be spent on upgrading facilities. The WASCC spends such money as they have on circuit upgrades.

The V8 crowd want it every which way. Huge fees from the cricuits/promoters and massive amount spent on upgrades entirely for their own benefit. Without caring that one precludes the other.

The GHD report to the government on the Wanneroo upgrade (Worth an est $24 million) clearly stated that it is not viable for the club to finance an expansion by itself. That is part of the reason for the state signing up to help out. They have already committed the first $6 million.

The only prob is that the tracks rely on a % of the door to actually stay in business.

Due to whatever reasons, there's no other category that draws the same crowds, hence no V8's equals much less money.

Even if after all is said and done, the track walks away with a 100g's profit, thats still at least 80 grand more than they would probably get through regular weekend hires.

On the plus side, maybe on their next OS round, the cargo ship could sink wiping out the entire category in a day.

    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
    • I get into huffs with people when I suggest the MX5 looks so much better as a coupe than it does as convertible. Pretty sure I don't prefer the convertible version of anything. Good job on the hardtop! The next buyer will appreciate.
    • IMO wrap does have its uses, but like you said, quality wrap, and professional installation, would probably cost want a quality paint job does, but, the paint, if maintained, is basically for life, and much easier to touch up if required  In other news: it's pissing down here, with thunder, lightning and only some small hail "at this stage", luckily all "my" cars are undercover  I've also been contacted by a guy in Newcastle about the SS, he said he will come down next weekend for a look, we'll see how that transpires I guess 🫰
    • Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha!   I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha!
    • Please noooooooo 😭 As for wrap, no thank you mate, I've seen and used "carbon fibre" wrap before, and for these hard tops, they look soooo good when colour matched Like this >>>
