Hey dudes... time has come to get a Skyline, as I don't plan to drive the STi's around all that much (modding one for track work, etc..other to keep stock). Now...the dillema I have is this: I have two options/opportunities at the moment.

One is for a R32 GTR in very nice condition with quite a few mods and lots of power. Other is a R34 GT-T, great condition, almost stock, standard power. While I like the look of the R32 better, and the fact that driving one feels like youre driving an overpowered go-kart, i cant go past the fact that the EXACT history of a 20 year old car can be very hazy, and for all i know car could be on its way out a week after I drive it. The R34 on the other hand is newer, interior (this is a big, BIG thing for me) is newer, usually cleaner, the car still looks good...but obviously without external enhancements (front lip, spoiler, etc..) and more power it will look like every other Skyline on the road. Being that they're priced roughly the same....bite the bullet and get the R32 GTR becouse...well...its a GTR and a much better car, or get the R34, something newer, more reliable, etc...? Please note, I am only weighing up these options as they're very similar in the price range. Car will be driven to and from work, to shops, etc... I am not looking for a state of the art GTR for $35,000. Both will be cheap, every day cars ( maybe minus all the repairs for the GTR :) )

Maintenance etc will obviously be higher, also the fact that your only looking for a daily..

but on the other hand it seems like you want the 32.. in that case you can just find one that's clean, get it checked by a mechanic (one that knows what they are looking at) and get a leak down, compression test done... will tell you the condition of the engine.. check for signs of wear, abuse.. you'll find a nice one for the price you get a GTT for..

i'd go for the GTR but only cause it looks like thats what you really want

Caveat Emptor

Considering the R32 GT-R is not without risks.

PLUS* = Depreciation from here on for a good specimen is very minimal.

Check its history by looking at "VINS Fasted" on this forum as you don't want a car from Hokkaido or N. Honshu (due to hidden rust).

Go over it with a mechanic + panelbeater friends if poss. with a fine tooth comb.

If you're patient and get a great one, boy will you be happy.

And the R34 GT-T is still a good car.

GTR - Higher Excitement. Higher Risk of something going wrong that will cost up big. Got the "awesome factor"

GT-T - Newer, probably less history, more comfortable, much nicer interior. Slower but in theory cheaper in the long run.

If I was after a toy and had a daily I'd go for the gtr in a flash

If I was after a daily driver I'd go the GT-T

Good! - Where are you situated?

Are you looking at what an importer can bring in for you?

Car Yard? There are those with good reputations and those that are not worth mentioning.

Carsales? People sell them there if there's something wrong with it too; which means I'd firstly look at Private Cars F/S on SAU.

Take your time > Be Picky!

BTW...can someone recommend some decent importers in Melbourne I can speak to?

I don't remember if it was on here or elsewhere that I saw a MINT R32 GTR, freshly imported from Japan, with something like 40,000kms on it and it looked like it just rolled out of the showroom.

Interior was MINT!

Kristian (Iron Chef) is a member on here.. will be more than helpful to get what your after.. im sure he'll find this thread soon enough too...

EDIT. Forgot to mention though he's in Adelaide but more than worth it..

I've made up my mind

R34 it is

Will start hunting for a nice example right now

black or white, manual, turbo, with preferably a nice body kit, decent wheels, etc...

and so it begins

How much do you guys pay for insurance?

Rating 1

no claims

no speeding tickets

clean driving record

used to pay $1200 for the STi with Shannons

Wish I had got a R32 GTR, hindsight is a bitch.

I got a GTST boat which is worth $8,500 -$10,500 red book, a GTT is just another boat only uglier in my opinion which is worth $16,400 - $19,000 red book , a R32 GTR will never be a boat and you can pick up some nice ones for <$20 000 red book for JDM $13,000 - $15,900.

A R32 GTR ADM is a bit more pricey, LOL.....

Resale for any of the above ?

Wish I got the 32

34 definately

saw two 32's today...GTR's that is

way too old and I just don't have the time for restorations and things going wrong.

If you do pick an R34 gtt you will regret it , why tip toe around like a little school girl , get yourself some balls and get a GTR 32 , you will not rergret the looks and drive of the original godzilla , half the fun is finding one .IRON CHEF IMPORTS

^^^ No question about talking to Kristian!

Get the r32... just wait and find a decent one. I paid 20k for mine. And its MINT. perfect paint, Perfect inside and out 312awkw. and its a Nismo Edition. I waited 6months to find it but.

    • Hi everyone, just looking to see what's available in the GTR seat options, testing the waters on what's available. Wanting a driver's seat to replace my old school OG jap race seat, going to re-register the car so need a factory seat. Prices currently seem to go from $300 to $2k for a driver's seat. What's options are there, that's good condition and actually a realistic price? Located Brisbane. Thanks
    • Are these a plug and play setup, and do they need a tune, like a haltech ecu etc? Thanks
    • Nice work on the paint. Those 3 studs are long as.
    • Hi everyone, still chasing a bunch of this stuff. Thanks
    • Been over 2 months since I have done anything on the S15 and had a day off today so got stuck into mounting the radiator and intercooler. I ended up using factory bottom mounts as bolted in and I did order some gktech top brackets but didn't work with the PWR radiator so made up some with aluminium flat bar. Spent way to long on them but pretty happy how they are. Next job was the intercooler. Used some more aluminium flat bar and did the bottom mounts first. Top was easy as just one long piece and 2 90 degree coming off rad support and welded them on. The bumper support required some notching to let the outlets sit where I want so will add some reinforcement later to strengthen it. I have also bought ecu and waiting for it to arrive. Went with a Link g4x Xtreme but will be adding a ptmotorsport expander to add a few extra inputs over CAN. Went through a few different configurations on pclink to get what I want to allow future expansion for sensors and gearbox upgrades. Ordered gktech rear arms but looking at the hardrace lower control arms to have some extra adjustment too will see how the alignment looks after first setup. Got 2 more weeks of work before shut down and will have almost 4 weeks to work on this so planning on hopefully firing up mid January.   Also bought a 2015 brz with a heap of good gear, did noosa hill climb a month back. Owned it for 3 days changed alignment and sent it. Finished the weekend 2nd in class and only .3 off the 180sx best time last year. MCA Red coilovers, gktech rear lca, bolt on lock kit and tie rods, whiteline toe arms, cusco 1.5way diff and 4.5 ratio, endless brake pads, headers, exhaust, perrin intake and e85 tune. Electronic steering adjustment, nankang crs with koya wheels 17x9 +35. Have bought rear traction arm and relocation kit, extended studs and v3 tie rod kit. Planning on also getting flex tune as lucky to get 300km a tank with e85 and short ratio. Car is a heap of fun to drive and super easy to work on. AC in the line up at Noosa was mint in 35degree weather.
