Personalised Number Plates

i want to take the Personalised Number Plates off my car and just continue my registration till november with normal number plates because i want to put the personalised plates on another car, can i just change over my rego to different plates? or do i have to get a full refund for whats left and pay for it in whole again? its one of those tricky questions that you cant find an answer for on the vic roads website haha

Not sure how it works down south, but here in NSW, you can put your plates into storage and have new plates re-issued, while still continuing the existing rego (IIRC).

Best bet though, if you can't find anything on their website, is to give VicRoads a call.

you should be able to. you may have to pay a small fee for new plates but that's all. i know that up here in qld you just fill in a form and take it into the department of transport and pay about $20 for the new plates

When my motorbike lost its number plate it was cheaper to replace the plates with a new registration than replace the existing number plates, probably because they took the new plates straight off the fresh rego production line as opposed to getitng new ones of your old number made up. I'm guessing it will be the same for cars too, so shouldn't cost much more than $50. Really though, call VicRoads...they'll be able to answer exactly

i had a feeling that was the case, just to pay a small fee, only reason i didnt go into vic roads and ask is coz i work 17 hour days at 2 factorys and really have no time but ill shoot down there today. thanks.
