Hey.

Just bought myself a super dardy 10 row oil cooler, just need some help with it.

ive got brackets for the cooler and filter already sorted

obviously i need an oil filter relocation kit, but how do i plumb the cooler in?

should the oil go: block > filter > cooler > block or: block > cooler > filter > block?

also ive got the turbo's oil feed coming from a filter sandwich on the block, so do most relocation adapters have ports for feeds and oil pressure senders or do i need to tee one of the lines?

also is braided hose a must? or would heavy duty oil retardant blue stuff be ok (with the appropriate fittings??

Thanks guys!

usually the relocation/sandwich plate has the correct location points for a cooler. I like your first option btw, no 'dirty' oil clogging up the arteries, plus it will filter better hot before it is cooled.

who did u get the kit off,

when i got my kit it had sandwhich plate relocator and lines, as ur set up is different im not sure about ur turbo feed, but my locater came with two ports i presume for pressure and temp. u could prolly use one of those for ur feed

also i run block filter cooler block,

on the up side if u do run the feed off the relocator u will have super clean oil going to ur turbo, but it wont be cooled,

Ksweetthnx.

What about the line? Is braided hose a definate need or is heavy duty rubber ok?

Should i need a thermostat for the cooler too?

or is that not really a need?

Also, what size are the outlets on the top of the cooler?

are they likely to be -10 or -8?

they are 8mm ID and the thread is like 17mm

Mate as far as your hose goes, braided is not essential. I have a remote oil-filter & hoses ready for oil cooler (routed but looped back until tuning is sorted) & use high-temp, high-pressure 'rubber' hose. 99% sure what I use is called Aeroquip. Definitely have the name but am falling asleep as I type... (on my phone) Can confirm tomorrow.

Anyway it is a really thick chemical-resistant blue hose... Awesome stuff but not real cheap!

Also use the same stuff for my turbo water feed/return & oil return. They have been on there for years & when I recently inspected them while the engine was out they were honestly as good as new!

Good luck,

Brett

they look like -10 to me.

And yeah, filter then cooler is preferable but not essential.

Re the oil feed, most adapters have a couple of ports on there for gauge senders which are pretty small. I don't know what size feed you have though so cant say yes or no.

You may want to consider one of these if you haven't got an adapter http://www.tuneagent.com.au/public/merchan...em.aspx?id=1307

I'd use braid but it isn't really necessary.

All the setup i have seen run Block -> filter -> cooler -> block

I run a HKS oil cooler kit, and on the relocation adapter it has the 4 ports to connect the lines to plus an extra port which is block by a fitting, if you could use something like that then you can connect the line for the turbo.

Most j-spec relocation adapters have an extra spot for an oil pressure senders (most of them will be on the fitting which goes onto the block)

Here is an example: http://www.nengun.com/trust-greddy/oil-filter-moval-kit

as you can see from the pic it has the ports for the pressure sender (however you want something with 4 ports were the filters goes on).

Also you can tee off one of the lines for your turbo oil supply i would do it from the one which goes from the reloacion adapter to the block (so it has already been filter and cooled)
