I have noticed that cruise control is a very rare option on the M35 and it is even rarer to find a car with both the audio and cruise control buttons on the streering wheel.

In the USA the Infiniti G35 looks to have exactly the same steering wheel but with both audio and cruise control buttons as standard.

Does anybody know if it would be possible to buy a G35 steering wheel from the USA, fit it to an M35 and use the audio buttons to control an aftermarket head unit and the cruise control buttons to control an aftermarket cruise control unit such as the AP800?

You don't need a new steering wheel. You get these features fitted locally.

The Stereo unit is about $60 and there is a DIY on the forum for this.

The Cruise control is not a DIY, but Chris Rogers (Audio Express) can install cruise control and uses the factory buttons so it is a very neat job. Cruise on these cars is not a cheap option as the throttle is controlled electronically. But it is good to have IMO.

Chris is on this forum so you can send him a PM or get his phone number from my signature below.

Where does one get the steering wheel controls for the stereo. . .

How much is the cruise control. . I agree worth it for the long trips and better on fuel I would suspect. .

Chris rogers for both stereo controls and cruise control. I believe it is around $900 for the cruise control.

ooopppss. sorry my bad. I is not on here. I mus have been told on a phone call.

Before you start this procedure make sure you turn your stereo off and the CDs are correctly parked in the mechanism.

The basic procedure is.

1. DISCONNECT BATTERY

2. remove screws on either side of steering wheel, on the back facia of the wheel behind a little pop in bolt cover. This screw is a torque head screw (star pattern). This can be quite tight as it has lock tite on it.

3. The centre of the steering wheel will no come out (the airbag), as you pull out you will see a plug connecting it to the car on the top edge. This plug has a safety mechanism to stop the plug poping out. The black part of the yellow plug needs to be lifted up to release the plug. Put the Airbag aside.

4. You can now see the horn mechanism that floats on the inside. On the left side you will see a grey plug with a wire running from it connecting to the horn mechanism. Remove this grey plug as your new controller will replace this.

5. Undo the central nut holding the steering wheel in place.

6. Once removed you will need to undo the screws that hold the horn mechanism in place, this will release the pannel that covers the access to back of the steering wheel.

7. You should now have access to the back of the steering wheel to undo 2 screws that hold the silver blank in place. Undo and replace with controller.

8. Run wires around and plug grey plug into hole.

9. Do the reverse of dissembly to complete conversion.

This should not take more than 1 hour.

Good luck.

There is good thread on the G35 Driver forum in the USA which is a guide to replacing both the audio and cruise controls:

http://g35driver.com/forums/body-interior-...3-04-coupe.html

I presume it would be a similar procedure for the M35.

tis exactly the same.

as for cruise control $900 fitted in any state. the unit will be sent to a workshop for fitting. buttons fit ON THE WHEEL.

as for fitting the buttons it to ANY cruise unit - nup! this is a custom unit I had done and I market it as such. buttons are NOT stock either.

buttons in place.

from memory this was a M35 stagea that I used for the photo. the radio controls are a by product of the cruise. if you have the integrated 6 CD unit then they will simply work.

ok I'll post a link up. my IP lockout thing must be in play. I can see the images and I forget that everyone else cannot.

Chris,

Can you also modify the cruise control / audio control to lit up the steering wheel?

So at night, they can be seen?

Like this DIY on the G35Driver.com?

http://g35driver.com/forums/body-interior-...3-04-coupe.html

the later G35 WAS lit. the button set was different and had a lighting feed INTO the column. they light up green. in that case he swapped them out for the later items. nothing new there. and to be honest - not worth it. the lights are fairly dull in comparison to the dash lighting. I CAN get those switches but they are TWICE as expensive as the ones I currently use.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
