So who managed to get authorisation to bring in a 15 yr old car in Jan, when is it arriving and what did you get? I know there's about 10-15 cars j-spec are bringing in on the 2nd and 3rd of Jan.

grrr numbnuts 1989... *thows a banana*

its 2004 - 15 yrs = u took english n arts subjects at school din ya :)

23k is awsome, I'm guessing you paid about 1 million yen or thereabouts for the car? Good luck with the car, make sure you treat the old timer well :)

I was gonna bring down a 1989 gtr as well, but then changed my mind when I saw all the examples I came across (plus my budget was under 1 million yen so I couldn't find a well maintained or clean car for that price at auctions, car yards or even in the jap classified ads). Add to this the cost to maintain a GTR (twice that of a GTSt) and insurance, and it really put me off. But I'm sure when my finances will allow for it I'll get one.

:hellpisd:

*put banana up monkey's R32 exhaust

If funkymonkey's exhaust is a regular skyline's exhaust, you'd need at least 4 bananas....i really think Genesis32 really did take english and arts :P

I'm definitely going to treat the gal nice as well, price was good coz it was originally going to be complied under RAWS but got lucky with getting the car in the nick of time...

So did yo actually buy the car orignally planning for a 15 yr old import and then give up n think I'll get it under RAWs only to be pleasantly surprised or did you start with RAWS plans and then find out it could be brought in as a 15 yr old?

I was looking for a mint R32 GTR (didn't matter what year) to be brought in under RAWS (I just heard of the 15 year rule change and before they changed it so you could bring it in ONLY if bought before some cutoff date...cant remember the date:)).

Just happened that the car being brought in by UPI was a test run for RAWS, but they found out about the transition period cars and I got it in under 15 years instead (which meant UPI needed a different car for the test run for RAWS).

I was just very lucky!

guys... dun you thk that 15 yrs is old for a 32GTR

It's never going to be old! I'd been waiting and wishing and I've finally got my chance to own a GOD! :aroused:

Been dreaming since I was 16, and saving since I was 18...so it's been a long time but DAMN its going to be worth the wait. Don't care if they're going to be more common now coz of the 15 year rule coz it's still THE GOD. :P

you'd be surprised... only a select few cars got in under the overlap period (where u can bring it into the country in jan) thanks to most people's hesitance to commit and confidence in the system. Whoever buys a 15 yr old car after Oct 8 2003 or thereabouts has to wait till the car reaches 15 yrs to the closest month. And in that time legislation can be passed to change the laws further. However then the same overlap will occur where if they show proof of purchase they'll be allowed entry under the old scheme (current scheme).

R32's came into production late in the year and finding a first run R32 is pretty hard... so don't expect more like yours to be in the country till at least Sept-Oct.

no, there may have been legislation suggested in parliament, but it hasn't been enacted yet, until a sufficient amount of transition time is given. Usually around 18 months.

As for the 15 yr rule, they were able to enact this due to a loophole, where they found this ancient rule from the 80's which still applies. And since the Import Approval board hadn't notified importers of this, whoever bought cars before this rule was brought to notice was given exemption on a case by case basis.

If they do find another rule to change import approvals, then this has to be done again (law of precedence) so whoever buys a car now is pretty much guranteed that they can bring it in when they're car becomes 15 yrs old to the month. However if you buy it AFTER the rule changes are announced, you won't be eligible...

Unfortunately they don't make it easy to get exemption from rule changes... there's a fair bit of paperwork and chasing up to be done

does that make sense or did I just confuse everyone?

DOTARS are/were not accepting import approvals till before Jan 01, so its risky business if Jspec are bringing in 15 unapproved cars.

    • Ha ha, that is very true!  I'm too scared to leave it in the position though, it tingles my balls seeing it like that!
    • Which one did you buy? I have always wanted a decent inspection camera but have been unable to tell whether something is cheap junk or cheap junk chunk sold at just a bigger markup
    • Ha ha ha! I know those feels mate I've finally got the garage cleared enough that next weekend I'll do some actual work on my car (hopefully). Unfortunately garage isn't usable after 10am at the moment That said, I've done a lot of work this weekend on helping finalise a friend's Production Race car. Full started Christmas Eve. We're down to about 8 tasks on the list, including "get a wheel alignment". Sometimes it's just easier working on someone else's car or project than our own stuff 😛
    • Ha ha, ended up going it alone.  I just sent it (in a very nervous fashion).  Once I'd released the locks and it didn't automatically start spinning out of control i felt a bit more confident.   It made some loud sounds (cracking and creaking noises) when I first spun it which got the heart rate going again!  I couldn't bring myself to leave it tipped on the side.  I feel a bit more comfortable having back right side up while it sits there. I'd get angry with your last point but you're 100% correct! 😅 Even yesterday I managed to distract myself at numerous times to make a bracket to fit an LED flood light off the back of the house and fix my sons pushbike.  There were other little taks nibbling at my brain for the rest of the day too...
    • Probably one of the more nerve wracking experiences of my entire life! 😂😂 The balance (centre of gravity) is out still but in a direction that gives me comfort!   It's quite bottom heavy still meaning it takes a bit of muscle to rotate it.  The plus side of that is that it wants to to go back to upright.  Better that than wanting to go all stranded turtle on me!
