hey guys,

the front window washer motor in my r33 isn't working

these are the two small cannisters on the outside of my windscreen washer bottle im pretty sure these are the culprits

i have pulled the wires out and cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner

there are no blockages in the line (can blow through hose and water in bottle bubbles)

the rear functions fine but you can't swap the plugs around to test the front because the prongs are different

i undid the 3bolts that hold the bottle in but cant figure out how to get the motor itself off, any ideas?

also are these motors the same in any locally delivered cars or still available from nissan? part #?

what are the odds if i get one from a wrecker it will be broken too?

thanks heaps

ps sometimes i wonder if im the only person that has such random problems with cars hahah

With the bonnet up you should be able to hear the pump motor running when you switch the washer on from the steering column.

Pull the wiring connector off and check it with a multimeter while activating the washer switch - could be a blown fuse.

If the pump is dead you can just prise it away from the bottle with a screwdriver. The pump is just held in by the edges of the recess in the plastic bottle, and has a plastic pipe that goes into a rubber grommet.

Pretty sure I got a generic replacement pump from either Supercheap or Repco ages ago. Take your water bottle in with you to make sure the replacement pump will push into place.

hey all,

I just back from 9 weeks overseas and i have the same issue now. What has been the cause of everyone's problems with the front washer??

obviously want to get this fixed as soon as possible.

regards, matt

Yeah the pumps just push into a rubber seal. So either buy a new one, or get one from a wrecker.

Also, sometimes polish builds up and hardens inside the squirter on the bonnet. Stick a pin in there to clear it out. But as far as i know, you can actually move the squirter around, so test it to make sure it still squirts the window and not the dude behind you haha

Both motors have since died on my car.....so the mission began.

Repco had nothing in stock that fit at all, nissan wanted $70 and $75 each......

so i ended up at Bursons, where i found the closest possible thing.

NICE products NWP1600, which fits and looks original other than the fact that the pipes come out of the other side of the pump motor, but it was easy enough to retrofit the hoses to fit.

One of the plugs fit fine onto the replacements, but for some reason Nissan decided they needed 2 different plugs......so the other was just a retrofit with blade plugs.

finished product looks close enough to stock and all purchased off the shelf on the day..... $40 total sure beats $145 + postage + waiting time.....

all in all quite the ordeal just so i can see while driving.....

    • Probably a smart choice to buy one vs build, purely for the motivation part as you said! Imagine the metal dust everywhere from grinding all the steel to build one. Ha ha ha!   Also, post a photo of your garage.   Mine is below, this is where I've been cleaning and have already half filled a caged 6*4 trailer. And this is after my cleaning expedition mentioned previously... The middle normally has a car in it, but I'm dumping things in the middle as I sort through them. And poor skyline was dusty and has had the lightest few drops of rain and now it looks atrocious and needs to be dragged back out and washed thoroughly! And yes to the right is technically another bay, you really can only see 2 bays out of 3 in this picture.
    • It's more like on average the things I see a lot of things going wrong. Yes, usually the people who reach out are the ones who are having problems but on average it feels like mechanics and tuners here aren't really competent. I swing between thinking my standards are just way too high and wondering whether people really are just this dumb. I just had the strangest 10+ reply argument on a Facebook group over someone insisting that the factory R34 GTT boost control solenoid reduces boost pressure to 5 psi when it's on and raises boost pressure to 7 psi when it's off despite showing the exact plumbing in the factory service manual and the solenoid behavior detailed in the FSM.
    • I steam cleaned my near new set of volk gtc wheels 14 years ago and farrkkked them lol. The clear coat cracked like spider webbing in several areas. Lesson learnt don't do that. 😭
    • If you don't touch the CAS, then you're fine.
    • Yeah, my moulds and seals are 32 years old now. I think I will continue to not use a pressure washer on it.
