Mobil Synergy 8000 ./ ? ive never heard of it, then again ive never gone into Mobil Petrol station to fill my car up!

I have never seen it in QLD either.

I can't really tell the difference in performance/economy between Optimax or Ultimate, but do believe that Optimax is the dirtier fuel. I used optimax and only optimax for the first 18 months of skyline ownership and I always had to polish out the exhaust stains from the back of the car and when pulling off the fuel filter the fuel would be black when I tipped the excess fuel out of the filter and the exhaust pipe itself would be jet black. Since changing to Ultimate about 12 months ago I have had none of these problems. Nice and clean.

Mobil Synergy Fuel System is the fuel to meet the needs of every car, every driver, every time.

A New Generation of Power

Mobil Synergy 8000 is a high octane, high performance fuel for all cars and all car lovers*. A fuel ahead of its time, designed for all drivers. It reassures you as only the very best can, because a quality fuel such as this maximises the efficient operation of all motor vehicles. It keeps engines running cleaner and smoother thereby maximising power and efficiency - while also being kinder to the environment. And the feeling you get from that is something you just can't measure. Mobil Synergy 8000 has the added advantage of a fully synthetic additive package that provides detergency, lubricity and corrosion protection.

These detergents also effectively clean fuel injection systems/ carburettors and intake valves, and provide excellent corrosion protection. This efficient deposit control technology maximises the performance of engine control systems and helps minimise exhaust emissions. It all adds up to lower emissions, more power and smoother drivability. The special lubricating qualities of this superior fuel protect moving parts, which reduces wear and extends the life of your fuel delivery system. Mobil Synergy 8000 is especially beneficial when it comes to turbocharged and high performance vehicles, allowing these cars to reach full performance potential. However, owners of older vehicles will also reap the rewards, as will drivers of smaller cars who will value the efficiency benefits of Mobil Synergy 8000.

What is different about Mobil Synergy 8000?

Mobil Synergy 8000 is a new, high octane, high performance premium unleaded fuel. The 98 Ron octane level, combined with a fully synthetic additive package, gives improved drivability and maximises the efficient operation of all vehicles (some pre-1986 vehicles may require an AVSR additive -see below). It keeps engines running smoother and cleaner, while also being kinder to the environment.

The additives in Mobil Synergy 8000 actively look after your engine, providing detergency, lubricity and corrosion protection.

What are the benefits of Mobil Synergy 8000?

Higher octane, more power

Mobil Synergy 8000 has a high octane rating (98 RON compared to 91/92 RON for regular unleaded petrol).

Mobil Synergy 8000 (98 Octane) allows the modern vehicle's electronic management system to optimise the ignition timing thereby ensuring your engine operates at its designed, maximum power and efficiency levels.

Many older cars can also benefit from higher octane, potentially increasing performance, efficiency and reducing emissions (see "Older vehicles" below).

Greater economy

Higher-octane fuels (Mobil Synergy 8000) have higher amounts of energy per unit volume of fuel when compared to regular unleaded petrol and therefore can provide improved fuel economy.

Added corrosion protection

The corrosion inhibitors in Mobil Synergy 8000 are added to fuel to prevent corrosion during storage and delivery. They also help prevent corrosion occurring in the vehicle's fuel system. This added protection is important, as corrosion deposits can build up in carburetor injection nozzles or fuel filters, and in extreme cases can cause the engine to stall.

Quicker response, smoother running = improved "Drivability"

Drivability is defined as the response of your car to the accelerator. A car with optimum drivability will accelerate smoothly without hesitating, will idle evenly, and cruise without surging.

Improved lubricity

Lubricity is normally referred to as film strength i.e. the ability of the fuel to lubricate. This means that when you use Mobil Synergy 8000 you can be assured that all moving parts in your engine's fuel delivery system, including fuel pump and injectors, will be protected.

Lubricity performance will also become a key future requirement as direct injection gasoline engines are gradually introduced to the market place.

Cleaner Emissions

With your engine running cleaner and more efficiently, Mobil Synergy 8000 is better for the environment - using less fuel, with fewer harmful tailpipe emissions.

Which cars will benefit most from Mobil Synergy 8000?

All cars will benefit from using Mobil Synergy 8000. The most benefit will be experienced by high performance and turbo charged/supercharged cars, which require high octane fuel to achieve their peak performance levels. These vehicles have complex on board diagnostics that can optimise performance to make the most of the additional octane in the fuel.

Can I mix Mobil Synergy 8000 with other fuels?

Yes. Mobil Synergy 8000 is fully compatible with lead replacement and unleaded fuels.

How is Mobil Synergy 8000 different to other high octane fuels on the market?

Mobil Synergy 8000 utilises the latest in global fuel technology. In addition to the benefits of high octane (98 RON), Mobil Synergy 8000 contains a unique blend of fully synthetic additives with significant benefits to drivers.

Is Mobil Synergy 8000 better for the environment?

With your engine running cleaner and more efficiently, Mobil Synergy 8000 is better for the environment - your car will be using less fuel, with fewer harmful tailpipe emissions. Mobil Synergy 8000 is produced in full compliance with all current environmental standards.

Higher Octane

What is Octane number?

Octane number is a measure of a fuel's ability to resist knock. The octane requirement of an engine varies with compression ratio, geometrical and mechanical considerations and operating conditions. The higher the octane number the greater the resistance to knock.

What is RON?

RON - stands for Research Octane Number and is measured using a laboratory test engine. It is standard industry practice to differentiate grades of gasoline on the basis of their RON.

What is 'engine knock'?

Knock is the rapping or pinging sound that may be heard in an engine during high power output e.g. accelerating or climbing a hill.

How does knock occur?

Normally when the fuel air mix in the combustion chamber is ignited by the spark plug, the resultant flame front moves smoothly across the chamber consuming fuel at a controlled rate while exerting steadily increasing downward push on the piston. However if pressures and temperatures reach extreme levels the fuel vapor ahead of the flame front ignites spontaneously causing a sudden rise in pressure accompanied by knock. This results in a loss of power and can lead to engine damage.

Keeping Your Engine Clean

Why is it important to keep my engine's intake system and combustion system clean?

Due to the inherent nature of combustion engine operation, all gasoline engines produce reaction bi-product, which can be laid down as deposits in the engines intake and combustion systems. These deposits are complex oxidation/combustion bi-products derived from reactions of fuel, engine oil, combustion gases and blowby gases. Such deposits can become critical to the correct operation of the engine when they occur in critical areas such as air bleeds in carburetors (older vehicles only), the fuel injectors, and inlet ports and on valves.

How does Mobil Synergy 8000 clean my engine?

The advanced detergent additive in Mobil Synergy 8000 not only cleans up, but also keeps clean the fuel intake system and controlls combustion chamber deposits. The result is clean injectors, inlet ports and valves, all of which provides optimum engine performance, fuel economy, drivability and cleaner tailpipe emissions.

BP Ultimate Overview

BP Ultimate Material Safety Data Sheet

Wierdly enough BP also give this...Fuel Gurantee - So if the BP Ultimate fux up your car you will be compensated... lol

Oh and for the curious..

BP Toluene Material Safety Data Sheet

High octane fuels have a short self life. Heat and sunlight break them down very quickly.

I was intrested in the Optomax sulphur readings. No wonder I got that funny smell when I used it ! I thought it was tolene or something.

I did some support work at a refinery once and spoke to some guys there. One thing that interested me was fuel changes season to season. In Winter they ad stuff to stop water related probs and in summer anti evaporative stuff etc.

you could just use the 450 quid n get the racing license... that way you'd have access to a lot of street illegal stuff.

What do you mean? the 20L drum is like $40-50 last time i checked, i asked the counter guy, hoping he'd just sell it to me, he said you need some type of racing licence.. it can be car, boat, gokart etc

You just gotta sign something saying you wont be using it on the street etc

So, assuming from that post about Synergy.. that its better than BP and optimax?

Apparently high amounts of sulphur in fuel can really cause a lot of wear at start up, because it forms sulphuric acid which attacks the metal during cold engine conditions. It was in some study in Japan or something like that... I'll dig it up soon. This reason alone makes me not use Optimax. Extra engine wear for nothin!

both the avgas and 100 octane race fuel are leaded, so not legal for street and will kill your cat.

I think its great there are 3 brands of petrol at high octanes, I personally prefer BP ultimate due to ghostrider's testing, but lets face it, they are all great news for hi po jap cars.

Yea i noticed that

Running 100octane race leaded fuel would have to damage more than the cat tho wouldnt it ?

Cause it basically is BP Ultimate but 100ron, thats what it says on the 20L drum

I wanna try this Synergy now tho, anyone know if its in QLD?

  • 8 months later...

have to agree with most of the posts here, BP ultimate seems to be the best fuel to use on my R33. The car just seems to run smoother in general. The biggest thing i noticed was that because my cars auto, Ultimate seems to hodl the gears for longer, thus getting more revs b4 gears change. Optimax is not 2 far behind ultimate, but if i had a choice id alwasy go ultimate. Also have put in 8000 when i cant find a BP or a shell, again not much of a big difference. All 3 are very good (considering that aussie's get some of the shittest petrol in the western world). but i cant go past Ultimate for consistancy.

Higher Octane

What is Octane number?

Octane number is a measure of a fuel's ability to resist knock. The octane requirement of an engine varies with compression ratio, geometrical and mechanical considerations and operating conditions. The higher the octane number the greater the resistance to knock.

As i understand it a higher octane rating means the fuel is harder to ignite, the by-product of this is the abilty to resists "knock" as they put it. Just means that while 91RON fuel may ignite under certain presure and heat with no flame source (ie. spark plugs) then 98RON will need more presure and heat until it ignites with on flame source

Am I the only person that doesn't notice any difference between Optimax and Ultimate? With Mobil, I seem to get slightly less mileage, but no noticably less power or any other side effects.

I have to tell you all that you that Optimax and Ultimate are the same fuel, at least in NSW, ACT and VIC.

Ultimate used to be good when it was trucked over from Perth a couple of years ago, but now they come from the same place, Shell fuel depo in Penrith.

Your all imagining things, and if you ask the truck driver of the next Ultimate delevery to your nearst petrol station. He will tell you that he got his load from Penrith NSW.

You perth boys, go your to BP.. its better fuel.

PS i worked for shell.
