jeez, I hope to god you don't. It'd be like if they sent the village idiot out in braveheart to negotiate with the english.

:)

No, I wasn't serious but I like the way you put that.

Unless he wants to pay me like $10,000 then I won't be doing any pathetic interviews

No one has ever said they were perfect.

However to be labelled and sterotyped as a "hoon" and so on just because of choice of car, is wrong.

This is only occuring due to the mainstream media sensationalising the "hoon epidemic" that honestly has been blown so far out of proportion and it utterly reactive that it's not doing any good to anyone.

Would you like it if the media & society labelled you as a dumb theif just because you live in Melb's West? And then Police & the public hassling you everytime you walk down the street because of it?

All because of mis-representation, sensationlist reporting and minority groups with nothing better to do...

I some how would think you would not appreciate it, let alone then being patronised with the "you're too sensitive" remark.

By and large, this forum and the Vic club is filled with people that are true enthusiasts. I can't say i've ever seen any member overtly misbehaving @ club events, cruises and so on.

We get to have events, knowing that we won't be drawing undue attention and can enjoy ourselves... something that groups of import owners seldom get away with these days.

Members have every right to be upset over the whole climate at present IMO.

I've seen it morph over the last 10 years where we could easily have 15 skylines in a carpark 10pm on a friday night without a worry in the world in 2002.

2010 try do the same and you have the public calling the police to checkout "hoon gatherings", security patrols questioning what you are doing and so on.

All of this has changed in such a short period of time, and that is predominately due to the media.

what your saying is true to a point when i had my first 33 in 2003/04 i havent seen anything change at all got targeted back then still do now, sure this Hoon reporting is far more common place i'd love a definition of "hoon" but thats a topic for another day.

be upset all you wish it wont change a thing, the world around you is full of stereo types and generalisations i dont see how its worth while to whinge about it every single day sure their is dikheads out there they wont go away

as for your bolded points i refer u to random metal detector scannings in footscray and north melbourne station of late, widely covered i dont see that happening in Toorak, so yeh we do get victimised in the west cos of junkies and brawls and stabbings and so on.. not that the east is any better you dont see forums up in arms over this everyone instead everyone says oh well done about time somebody did something to get knives of the streets. i dont own a knife never have and i'd say never will but that wont stop them checking me should i fall into their zone of inspections.

so yeh i think i am alowed to say harden the fk up cos its a loosing battle, which in fact it isnt even a battle.

as for your members having every right to be upset clearly the vast majority of them are skyline owners/drivers the reputation didnt make itself so perhaps they are good now but i tell you every little of zealous traffic light take off, or little "sidestep" out of the petrol station has created this reputation.

look at terrorist countries.. entire countries are now on watch lists every single citizen because of a few dikheads.. we say oh well, im simply saying the same i own a skyline and i dont care what ppl think hoon or no hoon its not my problem what thoughts go through their head.

So in summary, terrorists should be checked for Knives after being caught taking off hastily from traffic lights.

Don't get me started on the Western worlds terrorist watch list. I'm sure the American's are up the top of the lists in the same countries that top thiers :)

I had a great first 3-4 years around Skylines, friends of me who are a tad older had an even better time.

However the past 3 years or so since around 2007 has seen a rather ridiculous escalation beyond the point of reasonability... why? Because it sells papers and ratings.

lol @ don't known a knife... the West isn't as tough as it used to be, the stabbings are just reported these days

I'm far from saying everyone in the club in an "Angel". I've lost i think 20 demrit points over the past 8 years, even lost my license twice.

Does that mean i am a hoon though? Just because of speeding fines and the like does not mean I'm doing burnouts in Cambellfield every Saturday night?

Nor am i having "runs" with my mates on Lambeck drive on Thursday's or Cherry lane on Wednesdays!

Or am i doing donuts in the middle of Doncaster intersections because im bored?

Yes i might accelerate 'fast' off from traffic lights, yes i might get upto the speed limit faster than my Grandma.

Yes i have had speeding fines and so on...

But the big question - does that make me a hoon? In my book - Nope.

The term "hoon" is too easily thrown around these days as part of the sensationalist media approach to making money and their existence viable.

End of the say SAU-Vic only has 220 Skylines. The rest is made up of varying models.

I would take a guess that isn't even 1% of the Skylines in Victoria, so we are a minority. A minority that gets targeted by and large due to OTHER's behaviour, not our own.

I'm sure he could get you a role in one of the teledrama shows that he cameos in as fair exchange.

People in Australia have been complaining about hoons in the media since the 19th Century.

Just because of speeding fines and the like does not mean I'm doing burnouts in Cambellfield every Saturday night?

wednesday nights. this is what happens when you get old n take your finger off the pulse.

i dare say its more then 1%...

the west is nothing like what it was you dont need to tell me..

interestly you refer to the west for hooning activities

and why is speeding not a hoon offence? your hardly a hardened criminal.. but yes your a hoon going by the current loose definitions thrown around given your driving record.

of course the media sensationalise its their job its just that your buying into it far more then 99% of the people reading it if everyone was as upset as you and your cronies they would have started lynching skylines and their drivers long ago

i'll agree to disagree could argue all day, whether its right or wrong that your targeted even though your all innocent angels its not going to change so i just really dont understand why you spend so much time complaining.. why dont you use ur whinge time to campaign for a new track to be built? much better use of your time i'd think.

and for the record no-one uses cherry lane anymore thats like old school.

Roxy Kebabs, in Roxy. Best Kebabs in Melbourne.

I don't know of anyone that has been there and said otherwise (and I'm not even exaggerating lol.)

Oh yeah, this is ''The Kebab Thread'' now, hoon-discussions have been frashed bro.

Oh yeah, this is ''The Kebab Thread'' now, hoon-discussions have been frashed bro.

as if, everyone knows kebabs, hooning and terrorism go hand in hand.

now, if we can somehow tie schoolyard knifings and indian bashings into the hooning culture...

lol Shan - you know as well as i do it's been nowhere near as prevalent.

Getting a couple of isolated articles doesn't say much!

Hooning as definiton by the media is the burnouts, street racing and so on.

Speeding fines for 56 in a 50 zone is hardly hooning. That would mean pretty much everyone is a hoon, even these journalists i dare say.

But because i drive a skyline, im labelled with the media definition of hoon, because that's what people associate. Does not by any means say that i am.

Sounds like you've been cornered by the media definition of hoon as well!

so does this mean we are now 'car terrorists'? LOL

    • Alright guys, I've got good odds the motor survives due to a majority of spare parts. Who's taking bets on clutch, who's on transmission, and who's go diff? Happy to also take bets on if it still overheats in traffic or not 😛     Car looks amazing by the way. I've never been a fan of R34 rears, so really, I don't think any body kit etc solves that for myself, but the front end looks amazing!
    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car
    • For that price you could buy the hypergear turbo (big fan as I run one) and the Haltech ECU..
    • +1 for the Elite 2500. Get some new knock sensors while you are at it (pretty cheap), look up the TAARKS Nissan knock sensor kit. You may also want to get new coils (R35gtr) while your at it (assuming your on stock ones), as they are a liability. Mine started right up and idled fine on the base map. Also go MAP over MAF, as said above, Haltech make this super simple right out the box. Another fanboy of DBW here, Outsider Garage from your neck of the woods make some nice conversion gear for the R33 (that’s where I got some of my gear from).
