I just got an email from my contact in Japan who can once again get me some informeter's at a very good price. (sorry Dunc & Dale)

let me know if anyone is after one?

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy, can you PM me info on the infometer?

Thanks, Leon.

It finally showed up, in a very well traveled looking postage satchel with no padding :|

Everything looks to be in order, no damage to the box or the components.. looks like its all there and brand new. Fingers crossed theres no dramas!

I'll see if I can photograph some of the setup/install and screen options for this thread (and M35Stagea.info) :) I should really learn japanese; the manual has 91 pages of documentation for them, and 20 for us. Im pretty sure their language isnt THAT inefficient, so Im guessing they just get more details... bastards!

Got around to installing it, the missus came over and wasnt too keen on me sitting in the car for 30-45mins last night :P

Never mind, I had a good think about where would be practical for the unit and initially tried zip tying it on the right hand side of the steering wheen; that proved to be an awesome sun light reflector in to my face - so I settled for it on the left hand side.

The display itself is nice and clear, very easy to read

I used the double sided tape to mount it, wasnt possible to get it completely flush but I think it should hold

Didnt take any photos of the wiring, but I went with the Red - Orange connection, turns on and off with the car. I tucked the cables up into the opening in the panel next to the OBD plug, havent cable tied/taped back the cables flush yet but its out of the way for the time being

Hi Dunc

Nice job.

That is the same spot I put mine. You should be able to tuck the cable up next to the main console next to the air vent.

I managed to bend my mounting pad so it sits flat on the curved surface.

Cheers

I contemplated trying to bend it but figured Id probably some how break it, knowing my luck :D

Theres already a cable running down there for the fog lights, I'll sort something out eventually.. Im thinking those little square stick on patches with tiny cable ties built in; one or two of them should keep it nice and flush.

Interesting thing I was oblivious too initially, the branding on mine! RE雨宮 (RE Amemiya), as in the tuning house for rotaries. Weird. Everything was new, in box. Protective plastic film still over the screen. Who knows :)

i rekon the mishi would have fitted with some cutting

but these ones have the mounts in the wrong spot and they hold the AC condenser out 10mm away from the core so the entire unit doesnt fit in

anyway, it will be sorted with more time and money thrown at it :P

Thats about how far the condenser sits out from mine...

how did you get it to fit without cutting too much of the reo away?

bah, dont worry actually. gotta get the radiator modded anyway so ill get them to move the mounting points forward so it WILL fit

then ill just shorten the hoses on the back so they dont kink up

    • Diagnosing with and without is mostly the same. You need to know, as Duncan asked, and what conditions. Car hot, cold, idling, driving, if while driving what rpms, is when you're varying, or is it when held constant.   From there it's understanding what can be causing it. Starting with pretending all of the sensors are correct. Which means if it's going rich, why would it be thinking more air is going in than it is, and under what conditions. So things like if only when under boost, it could be be a loose intake piping joint. It's just understanding the system, and understanding when/how the problem occurs, and then if it's only occuring in specific scenarios, what can be causing it.   ECU specifically, if it's aftermarket, it'll have software you can use, for the Skylines on factory ECU, there is Nissan Consult you can use. Most ECUs have a way to get data from them.
    • How do you go about diagnosing ecu's that don't have data logging, is it more experience at that point and just trying out things that you think will fix the issue?
    • Stock O2 are basically useless beyond anything at stoich. Any misfire will also be seen as lean. The stock O2 also read a collective exhaust gas volume, not each cylinder. Sputtering and missing means not each cycle is firing, and some are. Which means even if rich, as shit, on cylinders as they miss, they'll read lean, but the cylinders that did fire will read rich, and combined, well, they can read anything from rich to lean.   Start with the basics before even going looking at sensor values.   Edit: I say the above, and that's coming from the guy with a few thousand dollars worth of scan tools sitting right beside me right now that I use frequently for my job.
    • I just finished up a manual swap and I have a 1999 S2 AWD automatic in my garage, depending on where you are located. I'm in the the midwest of the US.
    • I’ve heard it can be done, you need to redrill the holes where they bolt to the chassis and apart from that they are the same. I’ve never done it or know anyone personally that has, it’s just something I’ve heard
