zei20l
manual one is slightly larger. cutting is required. a hacksaw is enough. but if you do cut be VERY careful, its softer than you think lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309626-informeter/page/8/#findComment-5573173 Share on other sites

iamhe77
whos cutting what? When fitting a larger radiator, you need to cut the black "glassfibre composite" frame that it sits in Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309626-informeter/page/8/#findComment-5575990 Share on other sites

In all honesty, what will the bigger radiator acheive? will this only make a difference if the cars tuned? iamhe77
What do you think a larger radiator will achieve? Better cooling control for one, especially when you consider that the stock core is only 16mm thick lol. Not too difficult if you are happy to take to your car with a hacksaw. I still had to hack up a fair bit to get my custom radiator in after I lost my nerve (and patience) with the Mishimoto unit that now resides in Scott's car Edited December 2, 2010 by iamhe77 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309626-informeter/page/8/#findComment-5576035 Share on other sites

Make sure they have an in-tank cooler too. That is all For a custom one? I took my stock unit to Race Radiators who made me on up using a Griffin Race core and has them put the OEM in-tank into the custom unit. Lovely unit and they do great work. I still have my stock radiator if you want to go this route - but it will probably cost you more than buying a Chinese Z33 core and having it modified. not really but we should start one on m35stagea.info When you put yours in, feel free to put up a good "How to"... which reminds me, I really should do that transmission service post... PWR do a G35 radiator. I spoke to them about a custom radiator and even measured up the stock one, but $1k + shipping with a possibility of it not fitting is not a risk I was prepared to take. On the positive side, I believe that their G35 radiator retails for under $650USD... in the US, so should be significantly cheaper here you would think.... ....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Edited December 2, 2010 by iamhe77 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309626-informeter/page/8/#findComment-5576289 Share on other sites
PetroDola
what does the nismo thermostat open at ? i know the r33's doesnt even think of opening until circa 79C anyway. more than likely the same principle applies.. meaning theres no flow around the engine until your hitting that temp anyway. sometimes no thermostat is better. im thinking 90C even though its not far off boiling temp.. isnt that far fetched for the running temp of this engine. No thermostat, is almost always worse, car takes forever to heat up, if it ever does. Rich fuel mixture uses heaps of fuel, as you never get out of cold start map, washing oil off bores, allowing rings to score everything. Not a single good thing there... Don't forget your cooling system is pressurised, water will not boil at 100deg, under pressure. I'm not really a fan of those either, in extreme cases they can cause similar problems to no thermostat, if the opening temp is low enough. You're only masking issues of an inadequate cooling system, either not enough water volume or not enough heat shedding ability. Both of which you can correct with an appropriately sized, well designed aftermarket core. Cheers Andy on the nismo site it says it opens at 62c and standard nissan Thermostats open at 76.5c. I wouldve thought 62c would be abit cold right? iamhe77
scott said to go where you went he said its a little more but they make sure it fits which i wouldnt mind spending the extra couple of hundred on, if that It is a little more that a Chinese unit, but they use great core's, workmanship is of high quality and a full custom radiator for just over $700 ain't too bad IMO. PLUS I still have my old one which you can take to the to use as a template (to in-tank trans though - it is in my current radiator) on the nismo site it says it opens at 62c and standard nissan Thermostats open at 76.5c. I wouldve thought 62c would be abit cold right? 68c I guess you were looking at a US site? The Mishimoto VQ35 thermostat opens at 62c... which causes all kinds of issues for our cars, doesn't it Scott! There are a few of us running the Nismo units with no issues whatsoever. Mine has been in for over a year and a half with no concerns Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309626-informeter/page/8/#findComment-5577363 Share on other sites
