heyyy hows it goin i got a r33 gts-t 93' model skyline, i have replaced nearly everything in this car cause i got it off a bloke that had it and it was sitting around doing nothing... why do i tell you this? figured u might wanna know the history when i say everything in the car is perfect! except the cooling system... just the other day i flushed the coolant out (man smelt like it hadnt been replaced in years) and put fresh coolant in, then filled the sub tank aswell to max, however, i took the car for a drive up the road and back around the block, driving it casually and not thrashing it at all, and yet when i stop and pop up the bonnet the engine is so bloody hot i cant touch anything, not even the pod! even the bay is hot... just... EVERYTHING!! and im like what the hell cause i just refilled the coolant with fresh stuff why the hell is it doing this... there are no coolant leaks or anything, no signs outta the exhaust of any smoke.. nothing.. all working proper its just the engine just nearly blows and feels like its gone 300kms when its only gone about 1.... i went to the guy at auto one and he was like maybe your thermostat is not working properly i also saw elsewhere that maybe the pressure on the radiator cap is loose and all but it isnt.. fits properly, also both hoses are hot, there are no blockages either in the hoses as i cleaned it out and stuck a water hose thru it and it was all coming out well. and when i stick my finger in the coolant after, it is warm so yes it is circulating thru but i duno.. do u need hell pro quality coolant for performance cars? cause the coolant i put in was rather cheapo i guess... argh.. im gonna stop talking.. SOMEONE HELP ME!

BTW My engine bay is icey cold after a run on a 40+ Deg day.

how can your engine bay be icey cold after a run on a 40+ deg day? regardless of the outside temperate your engine produces alot of heat which is absorbed by everything in the engine bay.

I duno... the temp gauge reads like probably if 10 was HOT HOT like blow engine stage on the gauge its at about 2/10 maybe 3... which is normal but i just like hell dont trust the gauge... why cant i have what ten four has!, im worried the gauge dosent work altho it moves and as such..

I duno... the temp gauge reads like probably if 10 was HOT HOT like blow engine stage on the gauge its at about 2/10 maybe 3... which is normal but i just like hell dont trust the gauge... why cant i have what ten four has!, im worried the gauge dosent work altho it moves and as such..

my engine bay is always hot regardless of the temperature.

if your worry about your temp gauge not working or being incorrect then go out and buy an aftermarket gauge but i say there is nothing wrong with your car

I was gonna suggest that but it's like $200 to $300.

Alternatively just thrash it about until it seizes up...then you know it's overheated. :blush:

alright man ill take ure word for it, im not a car enthusiast this is the first performance car ive owned and yeh.. just thought that was hell weird it being that hot for going under a kilometre, sorry if it seemed like a dumb question, thanks for that boys! this means i dont have to spend anymore money woohoo!!! have a great skyline now =)

no worries =) just remember the turbo does produce alot of heat and you don't get much airflow under the bonnet so the temp do heat up. i find that even just letting the car idle for 5mins or so min that it does start to get quite hot in the engine bay.

If your really worry just keep an eye on your temp gauge.

oh boy... see this is what i mean thats what i feel is going to happen... guy at auto one said the cars been stationary too long and the head gasket has continued to seep out so he rekons the head gasket is going to blow soon regardless of what i do cause its on is way out, ahhh well guess i better just brace myself, but cmon mate cant do anything about it? gotta be something i can do... and ten four its the water temp not the oil pressure 100% sure, gers where did u hear it etc what happened?

cmon theres gotta be other solutions to this? blocked thermostat? blocked radiator? malfunctioning fan? failed water pump? i dont wanna be driving one day and my car just go's KA-BOOM wanna fix this.

Calm down johnnnnnyboi, most of the negative posts in here are sarcasm, unfortunately it doesn't translate very well over the internet.

Turbo cars tend to get very warm engine bays, but then again so do all cars, even more so with any 'performance car'. It's still summer y'know?

If you're that concerned about it, take it to a decent workshop that deals with imports (plenty around) and pay them to do a service and check-up, but most likely things are normal and your car is fine. :blush:

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
