They should be fine with standard valves, springs etc. But I do not see the benifit. What turbocharger is on the car, do you have any dyno figures? With the right setup you might not need cams.

I would say if you are chasing 300rwkw then it would be worthwhile, otherwise don't bother. There are plenty of good responsive setups (relatively) that can be had if you dont want anywhere near that power.

Worth the $$$.

For nearly half the cost ($400NZD + GST or cheaper in AUD), can get the stock cams reprofiled. Tomei Poncams are similar to reprofiled stock cams (said to have have the same knotches on cams for accessing headbolts), but I gather they use new copies (blanks that are made by Tomei) of stock cams that are reprofiled to spec and badged Tomei cams. I guess it explains why Poncams work with stock cam gears, stock valve springs if they are based off stock cams. Measure the base circle of lobes and compare base circle on stock cam lobes and you'll probably notice 1mm or so missing on Poncams vs stock cams to make profile of lobes more aggressive.

In NZ there's Franklin cams that can reprofile stock cams (mention duration of reprofiled "STD" (stock) RB20/RB25 cams and looks like there are 2 options / profiles for stock cams) -

Or there's Kelford cams in NZ -

I guess good hp gains for $$$$ spent and some profiles work with stock turbo, stock ECU (I presume retuned stock ECU), stock valve springs, etc.

I wouldn't have a clue who does this reprofiling in Australia. But I bet there are cam company's that do reprofiling, which can save on shipping cost's.

Here's a link on bedding in new cams on Kelford website -

I gather you have to buy new lifters / flat tappets with new cams, but I guess it makes sense when fitting new cams???

There's an article on the tappet failures, so it might not be the tappet, but the oil you use -

Waste of time going cams until you need them.

360-380rwhp (boost dependant) here and I am starting to think about cams now. You have a long way to go yet

Horses for courses however. I have seen 200rwkw RB20's that seem to respond well to cams although I am not sure if I personally call it a worthy investment.

Poncams work with stock or N1 turbo's on GTR. Tomei mention stock or N1 turbo's + Poncams on this webpage -

http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogu...0_cam_RB26.html

Wouldn't think it's any different with stock or hybrid turbo + Poncams / reprofiled stock cams for RB20DET.
