huddy
Hi all, I've had a weld in CAMS spec roll cage fitted by Walker Chassis here in SA - now the car is a rolling shell at the moment but i know i need to get the cage approved by CAMS. HOW do I go about this? I went into the CAMS office here in Adelaide with my paperwork from Walker Chassis, however they were not very helpful... I'm also planning on getting the interior painted soonish and wondering if this needs to be approved before its painted. Any help is appreciated. Cheers -Matt Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309840-roll-cage-cams-approval/ Share on other sites
BOZ22N
Huddy Follow the below link and click on the safety cage registration form on the bottom right. As far as i am aware you fill out this form and send it along with your log book paperwork and they will process it. CAMS cage link Good luck. huddy
Hi there, i was extremely happy with walker's roll cage, I believe he hadn't done one before in a cefiro and took on the job without any hassles. I've been in contact with him again to get some more work done and again - no worries, and quite happy. I just need to sort out the appropriate certification to go with it now. I had a look at the link and still kinda confused as to what I need to do next. I dont have a CAMS log book - so I'm thinking i need to apply for one, but i'm not sure what class etc (cefiro RB26/30). Also I have a completed hard copy of the safety cage registration form already (this is what I tried to take to CAMS in Adelaide...) just unsure what i do with it or where / who to send it to. Sorry if these are stupid questions, Thanks -Matt Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309840-roll-cage-cams-approval/#findComment-5107641 Share on other sites
BOZ22N
You might have to log it as a sports sedan? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/309840-roll-cage-cams-approval/#findComment-5107698 Share on other sites
warps
I thought that logbooking the car was the process of getting the cage approved (that's the main thing they look at with logbooks). Didn't know there was a separate "cage approval" process. Mind you, it's many years since I've logbooked a car, and I know that some things have changed. I would get it logbooked as soon as possible, as CAMS have a habit of changing regs, and what complies with their regs this year may not comply ext year. Once it's logbooked, it only needs to comply with the regs that were relevant at the time of logbooking. Duncan
Hey Matt, cams approve a roll cage by log booking your car. when you log book the car you are assigned a class. assuming the ceffie is rwd you have 2 choices - production sports cars or sports sedans. read both sets of regs and decide which one works best for you - but I think you will probably need to go sports sedan because if you want to race it you would need to choose a category that is active over there. Once your car meets these regs you get the rollcage paperwork and the log book application, get the cage builder to sign the paperwork, and send it all to CAMS. They then send you back a log book and you need to organise for "pre-race scruitiny" where someone comes out and makes sure the car complies with the regs. Then you are right to go. huddy
Thanks Duncan for the helpful explanation I will just continue to build the car and once it's back together arrange a CAMS scrutineer to attend and tell me what else is required to make it approved. I think I will have to be sports sedan but I will read it and confirm. My cage builder has completed the CAMS paperwork already, so I guess it's up to me to get the car back together now.
