I wonder if it differs slightly between these two 5speed manual gearboxes or are they identical?

My gearbox has well seen better days and I found one for a R34 GTT.

So I thought if it fits bolton on my R33 gts25t with my R33 clutch, etc.?

For all intensive purposes the R33 GTS25-t and R34 25GT-t boxes are extremely similar, your only concern is the difference in clutch release mechanisms. Because of this difference you have two options:

  • Use the R34 pull set-up, and install either an R33 GTR or R34 GT25-t clutch (you current flywheel will except either)
  • Convert the R34 box to use a push type clutch, this can be done by either of the following:
    • Transfer your R33 set-up to the R34 box
    • Exchange the R34 bellhousing/front plate for your R33 items

While exchanging boxes it wouldn't be a bad idea to install a new clutch, even if for no other reason than peace of mind. Therefore assuming that the R34 box is coming with the release mechanism (including bearing and carrier), I would lean towards installing the R34 box as is.

If you have any questions drop me a PM and I'll happily answer any questions you may have.

didnt want to start a new thread, can someone just confirm that an r34 rb25det clutch will bolt onto an r33 rb25det gearbox?

thanks

No, R33 uses a push-type clutch, R34 uses a pull-type

you can use a pre-1993 R32 GT-R clutch as it's push-type as well.
