hi guys,

ive been thinking about taking off the factory clutch fan on my gtr BUT i think i do remember my tuner telling me that the engine will run too without the clutch fan & even if i ran 2 thermo fans it still wont work as well as the factory clutch fan...is anyone running their gtr without the clutch fan?

regards,

i should also add, if i keep the clutch fan i'd like to fit the factory shroud on my 52mm core radiator although clearance will be an issue & i'll need to hack into the shroud to suit - has anyone else out there made this work?

the guy i bought my car off cooked the old motor by running thermo's instead of the clutch fan.

dont think he had a shroud but,

if you make a proper shroud and not a dodgy one, one that directs 100percent of the airflow through the radiator and a decent controller with 1 big thermo the same size as a factory fan than it should work,

Is this a track car or a street car? Personally i would never get rid of the clutch fan on a street car, i specifically bought a radiator where i could retain the factory shroud. Most people i know that have gone to a thermo set up have nothing but dramas with them. Not saying you can't get them to run properly, but most people don't have them set up optimally.

If its a track car that see's a lot of high speed and isn't sitting sitting there idealing a lot then yeah fair enough the thermo set up might not be as bad.

Like i said, personally i would just stick with the clutch fan and make the shroud fit.

yeah i have similar thoughts, maybe a stick with the clutch fan & modify the shroud.

it is a street car running 700hp so the temps do get up there at times.

100 % leave the real fan on there . if your making 500 kw of power then you also have nearlry that many kw of heat to get rid off . most alloy radiators will still fit fine with the shroud

Any of the other RB family fan assemblies sit further back than the 26...I fitted an RB30 unit to mine but it sat back too far and the fan blades fouled on the top radiator hose (hence why its kinked like it is from factory)....

Im going through the same thing with my 32GTR at the moment, I ordered a 16" Electric fan last week but have today discovered Repco can supply a brand new Tru-Flo hub assembly for just under $200...going to see if my mate can get it a bit cheaper trade price.

i just tried fitting the shroud - wont fit with the thicker 52mm core radiator as it fouls on the clutch fan

Hi Marko look at VG 30 thermo`s should be straight fit & if they KEEP V6 cool should do all you want ,+ may be get them at good price to ,hope you have some luck Cheer`s Chuckie.

iv got a 52mm radiator and had the same problem as you, i just left the shroud off and watched my water temps on pfc hand controller

even on 36degree days it didnt get any hotter then 82 degress

thats stuck in peak hour traffic

I had a set of EL thermo fans in front of my radiator and they cooled bloody fantastic, even idling in traffic for 30mins+ on a 35deg day they kept the car cool. But they werent any good for track because they blocked air flow to the rad at speed.

So now I have 2x Davies Craig 12" bolted on the back of the rad, which work great for peak hour traffic but not so good for traffic much thicker than that. They dont work as well as the ELs, but I dont really drive on the street that much. If I go into the city the temps can rise fairly high, but everything is still safe.

They are controlled by a 85on-82off temp switch in the rad hose.

I ditched the viscous years ago because I hate how noisy they are!

How did you get EL thermos to fit a 32 GTR???

The viscous should not be noisy if its working properly!!!

They should really only be engaged at low engine speed, low air flow scenarios like when stuck in traffic...at road speeds or over around 2500rpm they should not be engaged at all and therefore not making any noise...

Sounds like yours was stuck too.

technically maybe, but i would never try that, i have always noticed that when cold starting most viscous fans actually engage and you can hear them roar for maybe 30 seconds,

whats the main reason you want to get rid of the engine fan marko???

i was thinking to take it out for the sake of the noise & appearance but after more research i will definitely keep it on there

there doesnt seem to be a way of testing the fan in the gtr workshop manual, wouldnt mind knowing if the fan is operating correctly - engine temp is spot on though so i guess its ok!
