Hi,

I'm new to the forum and was after some advice. I've got an R32 GTR which needs a new rear window seal and I wasn't sure where to go to get it replaced. I spoke to Novus and they just suggested picking a style from their range of seals and I thought if I did this then they probably wouldn't be able to put the bottom metal trim back on.

Has anyone replaced a rear window seal and know where I should go to get it done? Can I buy it form DJ's?

we used a VP commodore seal...you would swear it was factory part but looks much better than the original..sits nice an flush and has good contour.

whats the problem with yours? has the mould started to come out or started going out of shape? you could go to nissan and get a price on a genuine mould,

all the 32 i have seen have had the rear mould replaced by ether the vn/vp mould or the next size up.

if you put a after market mould ( vn/vp ) then you need to remove and refit the rear window to put the mould in as they go in together. If you get a genuine mould

then you can replace the mould with the window still in the car ( i think)

It shrunk at the top corners and had pulled out down the sides and along the top. It wouldn't streatch back in so I cut it and fitted it back in and I filled the gap with silicon and it looked ok for a while but now it has just broken in half a bit further down. The ends are stuck up and it's as hard as nails. It's obviously been in the sun too long. The seal will need to be replaced. Novus will remove the window for $150 and about $40 for the seal. But I had to decide on which seal to use. Sounds like a VP seal is the way to go.

The windscreen guy suggested leaving the bottom piece of the original seal in so I could keep the metal trims. Should I do this?

yeah leave the bottom part on there they should be able to get it looking quiet nice,

most nissans that have that setup have the same problem, depending on how much sun they get

that price is a good price, I hope it all goes well, there is nothing worse then having moulds or plastic strips going hard and making the rest of the

car looking a little shabby

I don't know anything about these seals. Can I just remove the sides and top of the old one and clip another one on? i.e. no need to remove the window or reseal it? If I can, it's easy to do and you have one then it's proabbly the way to go.

The genuine mould has two legs that come off the bottom, one clips into the retainer which is stuck to the body and the other pushes into the glue,

the hardest part of getting a second hand mould out is they normally stretch or snap, if you can get one then yes you can just push it in without taking the window out.

the second leg always tears off so you are only left with the leg that clips in to the retainer, it will be enough to hold it in place, If you do get one with the two legs then you need to cut that leg off as the glue is dry and you will never get it in place.

I think ure fairly spot on, from what i have worked out, out from my 3 r32gtr's is, I have 1 series 1 and two series 2's. the series 1's have the "The genuine mould has two legs that come off the bottom, one clips into the retainer which is stuck to the body and the other pushes into the glue," I personally cant remember as i dint look at the back windscreen cause i needed to replace the front, but that quote from 'Punk72' sounds identical to the rear screen mould on my S1. so i think what you are describing is a S1 mould

The series 2's have the rubber mould that goes around the rear window, and a hard plastic piece at the base... thats my 2 cents, as i have delt with both, I'm sure there a few other more experineced guys out there that could add their two bob and its also worth listening to. Its funny how the basic of threads becomes interesting.,, Lol , just to be sure, i will go have a look at my s1 this week some time ( which 2-3 weeks away from full repair & 4 sale $$ ) and try and confirm it. A little confusing but after reading what you've said and looking at mine I think I understand. As my GTR is an 89 I assume its probably a S1? I've put a couple of pics of the stuffed mould on my car on my profile page.

It looks like it's a new VP mould with the bottom middle bit left on and the metal(?) legs on the side will have to find a new home.

looked at your pictures and yes the mould that goes along the top and sides is the mould with the two legs, the uni mould would be the best way to go

as your retainer doesn't look the best of condition, you also wouldn't need the two metal pieces at the bottom,
