Broken Omori Temp Gauge

hey guys

bought a omori temp gauge off yahoo and the copper line has snapped off at the sender. you can unscrew it and there is about an inch of copper tube still attached. can this just be soldered up, or does there need to be an air passage inside it for the guage to work(ie,tube cant be repaired)

alternatively, has anyone had this problem before and had it fixed?

I believe that the copper tube is actually filled with a liquid, such as ether. If the tube is broken, the liquid will have escaped, making the gauge useless.

yeah have called around and the general concencus is that its not worth fixing.
