hi there.

considering doing a nistune setup in my s2

I know for the s2 you need to get the ecu sent off to get the daughter board 'type 4' installed... then get it tuned...

am i correct in saying that nistune can do the following...

-Air/Fuel mixtures

-timing

-can you remove speedcut?

anything eles nistune is good for???

removing the need for an safc or sitc or similar...

s1 same as a 33 can have the z32 computer (turbo or no turbo what eva) modded to suit the s1 rs4... and done this way... slightly more expensive.

can u use nisstune for tuning to move to e85 fuel??? and what are the pros and cons of using e85??

are there any other recommended mods bar the following that should be installed prior to tuning the nistune...

-FMIC?? is it totally necessary

-3inch turbo back exhaust free of any bullshit

-intake set up(again is it totaly needed? ive read that the airbox on stags is twice the size it needs to be b4 restricing (maybe a highflow panel filter??)

-boost controller (electronic of course)

-in a perfect world a bigger turbo would maximize the performance... and help fuel i spose with a slower wind up.

adam :)

I am by no means an expert, but I have had the nisstune chip and tune done on my S2 and from memory it can also remove/adjust the rev limiter.

Also he said that it's good for tuning up to about 300 kw, 320 max. Can't remember exactly why but I think it was something like maxed out duty cycle. I'm sure someone else will be able to shed some more light.

As for mods, well I have a full stainless 3inch will metal cat (and a few other bolt ons) but the boost curve on my readout indicated that it could only hold 14psi till around 5k and then continued to dip all the way to the limiter. So a better/bigger turbo would yield much better results (obviously).

yes nistune can remove speed cut, well you actually set the cut limit to some ridiculous number effectively eliminating it, from memory the highest value is just above 500kph. Rev limit can also be adjusted, as well as the timing and fuel maps, of which there are basically two of each, one for normal conditions and the other is for when knock is detected. if you have an auto the timing used during a gear change can also be adjusted, handy to get a nice smooth change.

some of the more nitty-gritty tuning sections include, after start enrichment, pre-accelleration enrichment, dwell time and duty (for the coilpacks), idle speed, etc. most of which don't really need any adjustment.

couple other things you can see with the Neo stagea's are: the Boost Solenoids duty cycle, there is some head room to lift it up but not much, probably wont add too much more boost, but i have heard of people toying with using this output to control water/meth injection or even just a water sprayer system onto the intercooler. and there is also a large section of controls for the VVT.

i cant see any reason why nistune couldn't handle E85. doesn't E85 just need larger injectors to get enough of the fuel in. i'm running 600cc injectors on nistune with out a problem, its a simple rescale and check fuel mixtures, fine tune as needed. i'm also running a Z32 AFM on nistune.

with a FMIC, 11psi on the boost controller, full 3" exhaust system and a decent intake setup. just pulling the fuel mixtures back to a good AFR in nistune i had my stagea performing a lot better, the gain was really noticeable after a little tune.

anything eles nistune is good for??? - As long as Matt (NIStune creator) has found the signal for the function, anhy function that is being controlled by the factory ecu, can be controlled via nistune.

can u use nisstune for tuning to move to e85 fuel??? - Yes, but you can't "easily" switch between tunes unless you have the individual software license. NISTune is not capable of storing more than one tune on the daughterboard at once. In order to run a tune for 98 again, you'd either have to get your tuner to put it back on, or keep a copy of your 98 tune on your pc and put it back on yourself.

and what are the pros and cons of using e85?? - Pro's: You can tune more power out of your car, before detonation kicks in. Con's: You use comparitively more of it than you do regular 98, so you often need bigger injectors/better fuel setup to cope with the increased demand.

all of those would be great mods to have before a tune  at the very least, most people say at least a free(er) flowing exhaust before tuning a stag.

What's this about a series 1 getting a nistune using a z32 computer? I thought s1 stags were unable to get nistunes?

i think, but you'd have to check, you cant do it because of the auto controls in the ecu. i know the Manual R33 owners can do it with a Z32 or a R32 ecu. if it is possible it might be with the use of an auto Z32 ecu to control the stagea auto, can't say for sure though. email nistune and ask the question, Matt will know if it can be done or not.

thanx guys....

what is the procedure with the z32 AFM?? just get one a wire it in? not too hard??

whats it good for just more air passing through or is it better to tune with?

basically. but after wiring it up you need to make some alterations within nistune to get it to run. very similar to the way injectors are resized to work. with the Z32 it just gives you more resolution. a Z32 will allow you to run a larger turbo and boost (more airflow), where as the stock AFM will max out.

the RB25 afm can only detect so much airflow. if you add more airflow (ie, more boost/bigger turbo), then you need to upgrade your AFM (Z32), or look at another alternative for measuring the extra airflow ;)

the RB25 one will get you a little ways yet though  your turbo will run out of puff first

  • 1 month later...

anyone with a tuned nistune board in a S2 stagea want to give me there map??

don't want to get mine tuned atm as i need to do one more mod before i do, but i'm getting about 320k's to a tank if that !!

or even if you know what i can do to help with the richness of the map?

Thanks

curt

I have an s1 so does this mean I can get a nistune setup.

Q1.What is there web site WWW.

Q2.How much aprox.

Thanks

Phil

First of all no you cannot. As so far it has only been developed with the JECS ECU, 98 series 2 onwards...i believe..

2. Their website is www.nistune.com

3. Approx $400 +

^^^ very incorrect...

u NEED to ring jeff from speed lab... his numbers here somwhere...

it IS 300 for the board to be installed

and IS 300 to tune (depending on dyno time but that allows alot of runs...)

u can do it on an s1 with a z32 computer... u need to speak to him tho...

I was being very approximate. Is the z32 a stock series 1 computer? I was always under the impression it couldnt be done..

anyone heard anything about bikirom's?

i've had a few ppl tell me that they are better than a nisstune and have mapped out a lot more features of the r34 ecu than nisstune have

any thoughts?

Z32 and RB32 ecus plug into R33 Skylines but not into Stageas. You can make it work but unless you are good at wiring it is going to cost a lot of money ( I know, I've been there). My S1 now with manual box and Link ecu.

have you got a copy of the software Curt? what mods have you done to get such a low km per tank. the stock S2 map is pretty good till you put your foot down.

Personally i think Nistune is the better product to have, and not because of the interface or the features its mapped, i cant comment on that as i have seen or played with the software, but because of the support base that Nistune has. Its only getting bigger and you will notice that more and more workshops are becoming familiar with Nistune. i dont think you can say the same for Bikirom.

If your worried about the number of features that have been discovered, i can assure you that there are more tables, graphs and values already mapped out than you will even look at. And with the owner of Nistune owning a R34 himself, if there is something that hasn't been mapped yet i'm sure it wont be long till its found.

Also something to think about, i got a Nistune board, installed by Nistune, and a single user software license for less than the price listed for just the Bikirom board on the Bikirom site.

cool beans, i think biki is pretty popular in qld and i dont think there is anyone down my way who tunes either (i do uni in tas but live in qld) so its gonna have to wait till i go home anyway

i would still like to hear from someone with a biki and why they went that way
