Transmission Fluid Options

Putting this in tomorrow.

Other guys have been using this for some time around the world in Asia/UK/US. Might be some is Aus too.

Very economical option.

I will be tracking my car about once/month on it. Not sure how it stacks up against the competitors. Will let you know how it all goes.

As I am trying to do all the basic servicing myself now I realise that this will make warranty claims difficult (though not impossible).

Some dealers in the US are now putting it in for their customers.

Handbrake if you are going to void your warranty by changing transmission fluid, then at least upgrade the specification some.

The fluid you highlight has the similar low viscosity (7cSt @ 100C) and low oxidation point as the factory GR6 fluid. If you are going to risk the high wear rates associated with this type of oil then maybe stick to the factory fluid and spend a few hundred dollars extra here and there when changing to maintain the integrity of your warranty.

Changing the fluid often, after tracking, doesnt stop transmission wear. All it does is remove the metal your transmission has just made (via lack of hydrodynamic film strength between the gears) and freshen up the fluid that has 'broken down' after passing its effective lubrication point. The 'cheap' transmission fluid option is the one that will do substantial mileage without needing constant changes, and doesnt oxidise under severe track use. Frequent changing is no substitute for correct lubricant specification in the first place. Remember, the GTR transmission only requires its fluid changed so regularly as the base lubricant isnt up to the transmission load requirement in the first place :D

Martin, I appreciate your advice and experience. I hear good things about the Willall Tranny oils :P

If I run into trouble I will be more than happy for my transmission to be the 'poster boy' of what not to use!

I'll be on that Poster with you mate........I'm OK with the OEM fluid as I don't track my car so why pay Nissan hundreds more

every time for the same stuff........

Its not the same 'stuff'

The BMW DCT fluid is a different base product with the same viscosity. Note that it is used in BMW transmissions etc, mainly that are Getrag based that dont share the same common clutch pressure lip seal (Borg Warner part) as the GTR. Notably we sell a lot of new internal GTR transmission seals to the markets that have been the early adopters of this product, so take note, and add it to your poster should you need to :D

fluid went in last night. I have to get a better hand pump!

VDC light went on whilst running through the gears but disappeared shortly after. Nissan service guy states this likely related to the wheels spinning at different speeds on the stand and not to worry! they have been quite helpful really, considering I am no expert and probably in their eyes have no right to be working on the car.

Driving well today. no real difference in the way the car feels or sounds.

Hopefully my tranny holds up otherwise I will have to plead for your help Martin!

things still going well!

transmission quieter and smoother. no more gear grind noises that I had with oem fluid (though that only happened once or twiceanyway)

about 200 road km and 300 track km since going in so its still very early days

hows your transmission going Jeff?

Love the Stuff...!!!! :laugh:

Bought 2 times 20l containers....I think it's a little quieter but still very similar sounding and drives/engages great.

Planning to change every 15,000k's and Engine Oil every 5000k's. :)

Changed the low volume Front Diff Oil....Lot cleaner then I thought....think it's the Graphite Grease that gives the oil

in there that darker ..............
