Yes to this! My friend picked up an N14 for $8000 in some rural town lol. Had a GTIR SR20 in it running 17psi (and the standard SSS gearbox LOL). With 5 people in the car we waved goodbye to an SS ute on its maiden voyage. If you want a fast car buy one that's already been done. I hate to agree with Shan's cold attitude towards modifying cars but after spending lots of money on cars myself the "do it yourself" feeling is very muchly overrated when you can buy someone elses waste of money for 1/5th the spending.

this.

but you always think how farked is this modified car that was "always garaged only driven on weekends / girlfriends car.. oh yeh 350rwkw how do you apply that to the kitchen  "

so doing it yourself has perks peace of mind for one, and i've never found someone elses car perfect to what i would want .. but the most economic way to do it is to buy someone elses hard work and hope the motor doesnt blow

LOL alex I agree all good buying a car with heap of power.. but the previous owner would of used that power in the back of your mind you will be like hmmm when is it gonna screw up on me.. or you find a nice car with a nice body kit etc.. and some 7" rims

Even if I could buy a fast ass pulsar for 8,000 id still prefer to drive a stock gtst around..

Everytime I think of dropping more than 20% of the value of my car on a mod, I generally just look at selling the car and upgrading. I mean realistically speaking, do you think Juliette is ever gonna see $90,000 from the sale of the car, even if it has that much in mods and maintenance? Makes it even cheaper when you realise half the people who mod cars are in debt and sometimes get strapped for cash, which means you can wrangle an even better deal.

Of course you don't buy if the car looks or feels molested, no matter what the seller says. Use your brain and not your dick when you buy a car. If I am buying a risky car I make sure the saving I make covers the cost of a possible fix... never had to be in that situation, but that's the mentality I approach it with.

my gtr just came with a catback which makes me think in my head that it wasn't too molested although in saying that being a skyline grannys don't own them

its a 12 year old car running on 80's mechanicals and 90's electronics.

get. the. fuck. over. it.

you're retarded if you seriously formed an opinion of the usage of a car based on its mod list. what if the last owner never checked the oil and let it run dry once before you got it? what if he constantly kerbed the car and bent arms and warped the chassis over time cos he was an overconfident driver? how many times has the coolant system been flushed in its 12 year history?

Sometimes people who don't know anything about their car and don't bother to mod it can be more damaging than guys who try to push their car's capabilities to the limit.

I think I'm queen of breaking that rule. Over $80,000 on a car that cost me $10,000. But I've had it for a long time.

I know what you are saying, over time the price adds up. I bought a $15K 4wd 6 years ago and since then I have spent another $97Kdd on it and now I am left with a vehicle that owes me $112K and if I wanted to sell it tomorrow I would be lucky to get $40K and it has a 2 week old $25K engine in it. Such is life.

fark what 4wd is it??

Never judge a car by it's modifications, or lack there of. Look how many people are on this website returning their vehicles to stock for sale...then you go and buy it thinking it's the "unthrashed" blank slate waiting for you to pour 5x its value into it...to turn it into the thing you were afraid of buying...

The truth is you will never know the history of a car unless you know the car itself. Same goes with odometer readings. All you can do is inspect the car in its current state and if it checks out mechanically, buy the thing...irrespective of modification. Consider modifications (reputable ones/brands) a bonus - my car came with $3000 of ICE gear (plus other mods), I was going to do all this anyway with my own money...but I'm glad I didn't, it made my car feel that much more of a bargain considering I paid the price of a standard car for it.

And my mate with his 8k pulsar, even if the think did shit itself he could have parted it out for more than that with all the fancy jap bits that were in it.

I probably spent around $15k on my 180, and I bought it already modified, however although I could have owned a house by now, it was fun! If I do buy another import, I probably wouldn't really modify it that much besides fitment and ride height. Fast cars are fun, but pointless on the street.

Anyway, scored a free ticket to the L&H 500 at PI

thats why you buy something that has plenty of go out of the box and only needs cosmetics to look good

for example gtr, evo, sti etc

which brings me back to my previous statement... unless your car is top of the food chain, don't waste money on a lower spec car.
