Yeah I didnt get into Monash when I was studying Industrial Design so I went to Swinburne instead, I found they were pretty good not as good as Monash but still very decent. I was annoyed Swinburne offered no Automotive component of the course tho :P baahh what are you gonna do

Your dad can just hook you up at Holden yeah... LOL!

Lol i got no skillz, haven't concept sketched in over a year now. I would be hella fail. I do all 3d stuff on computers now. I could probably model up some cool stuff

Yeah for sure.

Holden need 3d modelers to show the concept designs before molding it out.

Or what you should do is get into 3d animation / game development.

I assume you 3d model out the playgrounds you design..?

Yeah man, Most of the time they just come from the drafies downstairs premodled, I just import, texture, light and setup a scene then render out the previs stuff then comp it in photoshop ;) I like to model stuff but there isn't enought time in the day to model every playground.

yeah if you want automotive you've gotta go to monash, I think they're the only uni in australia that teach auto design & clay modelling. Holden actually sponser the 'clay room' & their chief of modelling & fabrication, Mike Chester, teaches the students plus theres is currently 3 former senior designers from ford in the i.d. faculty. Like I said earlier, companies pay a lot of attention to monash students during their final year(s) which makes it heaps easier getting work.

Also for anyone doing i.d. (regardless of uni) make sure you apply for the co-op positions at holden/ford, they have a few each, as they are almost a guaranteed job once you graduate (unless your useless...)

Mr windsurf you say your ok with computer modelling, if you have any skills with alias autostudio holden & ford are both hiring right now (plus designers, clay modellers, colour/trim, etc.) so check the ads on seek & contact flexitech.

cheers, tim

haha yeah nothing on telly so im reading everything for a change!

Jobs arent too bad, i.d. is pretty good in that you come out being able to go into a heap of different design areas. for example from my year, couple guys went to i.d. companies in melb (companies that do basically all kinds of work for clients), ones designing characters/environments for a video game company in port melbourne, few doing furniture design, ones working for dyson in the uk, couple doing web design, another went to italy to do his masters (now working there) & a heap of us went into automotive. 3 are designers (1 holden, 1 ford, 1 merc in china but previously honda in japan), 1's a photoshop artist at ford, 4 or 5 are alias modellers (ford, holden, hsv, they do all the 3d computer modelling during design process) & me & a mate got clay modelling jobs at ford. We make the concept/proto-type cars out of clay, generally all full size & do interiors too.

There is heaps of auto work overseas, generally contract based, & pretty easy to move around once you've got about 5yrs experience. Auto design took a massive beating during gfc but pretty much back to full speed again (here & o.s.), I've been out of ford for about 18mths now (I worked on fords new t6 ranger so finished up at end of program) & have just been sluming it in factories since but as i said its all good again, currently have 2 offers & just working out where i wanna go.

As i said earlier i dont venture into vic wasteland all that often so if you/your bro have any questions about i.d. at monash or just in general shoot me a pm.

cheers, Tim

Cheers for the wise words Tim! I will pass on the info to my bro. Thanks

    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
    • Don't worry about. Just don't try to drive hard enough to make boost and you'll be fine.
    • Yes. This has already been said. It is a loop of hardline in front of the radiator. Because.... the pump is on the LHS and the steering rack hydraulic connections are where they always are on a RHD steering rack....on the RHS. The high pressure line goes down under the engine, along the crossmember, like it does on all Skylines. Don't just throw expensive braided hoses/other kits at it. Work out what is wrong and fix that.
    • Still got the afm on the intake, clamps are shut tight, only loose hose is the one that goes from the j pipe towards the IACV, since it's next to impossible to find a factory hose and the barbs are different sizes (I'm still using clamps on this hose to try and help it seal on the iacv side) I've ordered parts to make up the hotside of the intercooler pipes, I'll plumb it in and see what happens in a few days I suppose The turbo's internally gated, can I just unscrew the tension rod to let the gate open?
