Mk4 supra (with the right looking wheels), R34, FD RX7, VL (calais only - its the front end that would just push it over the line).

I think you're kind of on the right track for the R34 being released in 2010 (hypothetically speaking).

I think it will definately still fit in and not look dated.

Reason being look at most cars today there are quite a few styling queues from the R34 - remember the R34 was released in 1998!

My personal interpretation :worship:

- Cars any car with hard edges (boxy) - Will generally age well - R34 has this trait

- Front end of the VE commodore and BA+ falcons - Shape of head lights

- VW golf and jetta - have somewhat similar styled headlights - but taller on the VW.

- VW golf and jetta having the odd sized circular tail lights - another r34 trait

- The current shape Chevrolet Impala - odd sized circular tail lights (do not like this car) - but worth mentioning.

- The wedge shape of the R34 (especially the sedan) is quite inline with many of the current cars out there.

This is all open to debate. But I think the designers of the R34 were right on the money back in 1998 - considering it still looks "with" the times even till today.

you are saying this as if the r34 didn't borrow much of it's styling from other cars, and that everyone saw the r34 and thought "wow, we should copy some of that stuff". the round tail lights were old hat by the time the r34 came along. box styline was also old hat. nissan basically just jazzed up a r31, which was just a tweaked r30. as for the round tail lights though, nissan first used them on the c110 skyline back in 1972, however they had been on the corvette for many years before that (about 10 years on the corvette) and chevrolette had been using round lights on cars in the 50's, although that was 3 round lights, not 2.

i highly doubt that ford, holden, vw, or any other brand for that matter, borrowed much styling from the skylines. holden being part of GM would've borrowed styling from it's american cars, and as would've ford, and then just mixing them their current model cars. in the VE commodore i see plenty of stying inspired by BMW and other european styling.

Definately agree with you on many points. The R34 definately isn't "original".

The point I was trying to make is that the R34 doesn't look too out of place till now as many car companies still follow a similar style or "formula" if you will.

I'm not saying that other car companies "copied" the R34 - But considering the car is from '98 it doesn't look too far different from what's on offer today - which is 12 years later.

cas in general haven't changed much in the last 10 years. if you go back to the late 80's and early 90's the cars changed a massive amount. nearly everything could be drawn with a ruler in the 80's, then in the late 80's and early 90's things went round. a few prime examples of this are the r31 to the r32, the XF falcon to the EA, the 1st gen magna to the second gen magna, the n13 pulsar to the n14, etc. then there was generally only minor changes in most brands until about 2000 when most brands then did another redesign. examples of this are the VS to VT commodore (while not as big as some others, it was still a pretty substantial change to body shape), the r34 to V35 skyline, the EL to AU falcon, toyota starlet to the echo, etc.
